College Football Bowl Game Anytime Touchdown Scorer Picks (Tuesday)
I hope everyone relaxed and enjoyed the holidays with their families and loved ones, getting a much-needed reprieve before the beginning of the new year.
The College Football Bowl season continues on Tuesday with three matchups, though one of them features a 5-7 Minnesota team that got to go bowling even though 6-6 Army is not. For the purposes of this Anytime TD scorer article, I will avoid that game, as it has the lowest points total on the board by over 20 points.
Instead, I'm looking at multiple plays in the two later games, which should feature plenty of points on both sides of the ball.

Tuesdayâs Best CFB Touchdown Scorer Picks
Rice vs. Texas State - SERVPRO First Responder Bowl - 5:30 p.m. ET
Texas State
- WR Kole Wilson Anytime TD Scorer (-120 via BetMGM)
The leading WR for the Bobcats, Joey Hobert, did not suit up for the team's final game of the regular season, and it's unclear if he will be active for this game. I still like this play if he does give it a go, but if he doesn't play, their odds will only shorten. Wilson was QB TJ Finley's second-favorite option in terms of receptions this season, reeling in 61 balls for 697 yards at 11.4 YPC for eight TDs, which was actually tied with Hobert for the team lead.
He'll be going up against a Rice defense that certainly isn't anything spectacular, ranking in the middle of the American Conference in nearly all defensive statistics. Again, I like him to score whether or not Hobert plays, and I think this is a fine price for a game that should feature a lot of points.
Rice
- QB AJ Padgett Anytime TD Scorer (+230 via Caesars Sportsbook)
- TE Boden Groen Anytime TD Scorer (+240 via Caesars Sportsbook)
AJ Padgett will get the start for the Owls in this bowl game, as starting QB JT Daniels has medically retired from football after missing the last several games of the regular season. In the final three games of the season, Padgett's 29 rushing attempts actually have him tied for third on the entire season for Owls ballcarriers, and his two rushing TDs doubled that of Daniels. He's much more willing to run the ball and has the ability to punch it in around the goal line.
Regarding Boden Groen, he was the third-leading receiver for Rice this season, catching 37 balls for 376 yards and three TDs. It should be noted that two of those TDs came with Padgett at the helm in their final three weeks. So again, Padgett doubled up on production with Groen compared to what Daniels was able to do starting for most of the season.
Both of these plays are based on a limited sample size with Padgett at QB, but I think the odds reflect that, and I love taking both of these plays at over 2/1 odds against a Bobcats defense that surrendered north of 33 PPG on the season.
UNLV vs. Kansas - Guaranteed Rate Bowl - 9:00 p.m. ET
UNLV
- RB Jai'Den Thomas Anytime TD Scorer (+150 via DraftKings Sportsbook)
- RB Donavyn Lester Anytime TD Scorer (+225 via DraftKings Sportsbook)
Though neither of these backs is considered the No. 11 RB in the offense, the Runnin' Rebels love to run the rock and spread the wealth with OC Brenna Marion's Go-Go Offense.
JaiâDen Thomas received the second-most carries in the UNLV backfield, running for over 500 yards on 4.7 YPC for a team-leading 12 TDs.
Donavyn Lester was the third-leading ball carrier for the Rebels this season, but still took 95 carries for 455 yards and 9 TDs, which was second on the team.
Both backs tallied more TDs than the "lead back" Vincent Davis Jr., but the odds boards do not reflect that notion and instead have Davis as the clear favorite to score a TD in this backfield. I think taking both Thomas and Davis to score guarantees you at least one TD from the duo, though I would not be surprised to see both runners reach paydirt in this game, which features a point total in the upper 60s.
Kansas
- RB Devin Neal 2+ TDs (+150 via BetMGM)
The Jayhawks were an extremely run-heavy team in 2023, maybe having to pivot on their identity after it was clear that stating QB Jalon Daniels would miss a significant portion of the season with medical concerns. Either way, RB Devin Neal was a huge benefactor of their offensive game plan this year, carrying the rock nearly 200 times for over 1,200 yards and 15 TDs. He was also active in the passing game, reeling in 24 balls for over 200 yards and adding on another TD.
The Rebelsâ defense he'll be up against is certainly no stalwart, considered middling to below average for Mountain West standards. In fact, we just saw another workhorse RB in Ashton Jeanty from Boise State rack up 153 on 21 carries against this defense, though he was somehow only able to find the end zone once.
Though it's not the juiciest number for a two-plus TD scorer bet, I think it's accurately priced and that there's a great chance that Neal finds the end zone twice against this defense.
