College Football Playoff Same Game Parlay: Ohio State vs. Oregon (Rose Bowl)

We have a rematch of one of the most exciting games this season. Ohio State was so close to entering Eugene and leaving with a win if only Will Howard had slid a second earlier. Now we get the rematch, and it’s for a trip to the College Football Playoff (CFP) semi-finals. The last game was a classic. With so much at stake, it feels like we could see another. Let’s get ready by setting up a same-game parlay (SGP) for the Rose Bowl.

Oregon had a few close calls, but like many great teams, they found a way to win. They have one of the best offenses in the country, ranking sixth in points scored per game (36.9) and fifth in offensive expected points added (EPA). That has a lot to do with Heisman Trophy finalist Dillon Gabriel and his 3,558 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. He had an excellent performance against Ohio State in their previous meeting this season with 341 yards and two touchdowns.

Ohio State vs. Oregon

  • Leg 1: Ohio State Moneyline (-130)
  • Leg 2: TreVeyon Henderson 24+ Receiving Yards (-120)
  • Leg 3: Dillon Gabriel 248+ Passing Yards (-130)

The Ducks have a strong defense. They are ninth in defensive EPA and have allowed fewer than 20 points in five of their last seven games.

If you want to talk about elite defenses, Ohio State is the first team that should come to mind. They are the best-ranked defense in terms of EPA, allowing the fewest points per game (11.4) and total yards allowed per game (240.6). They showed that off by allowing only 17 points to Tennessee in a 42-17 win.

That's a lot of points against a Volunteers defense that allowed 17.2 points during the regular season. We've seen them win games with offensive support and at other times the defense has come through. TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins’ run game was phenomenal, as they averaged 5.0 yards per carry this season. These two could be lead backs for many programs, but this tandem makes them even more dangerous because their run styles are different, and it's difficult for defenses to adjust.

Ohio State’s offense has made quarterbacks elite for years, and Will Howard is no different. He threw 32 more completions, 528 more passing yards and five more touchdowns in 2024 compared to 2023. Give credit to the receiving corps and how balanced this offense is.

Hypothetically, if Ohio State had the opportunity to kick the game-winning field goal and they made it in their previous meeting, they would have won by two, which is how much the Buckeyes are favored by in the Rose Bowl. Despite the Ducks being the higher-ranked team and technically the home team, this game is on neutral ground. The better team wins this game, and that is Ohio State.
