Top College Football Odds & Picks: Week 0
Florida State vs. Georgia Tech
The Florida State Seminoles are ranked No. 10 in the nation to begin the season. There's a lot of momentum from last year, despite missing the College Football Playoff after going undefeated with an ACC Championship. Gone are the likes of Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, and Keon Coleman. But in are impressive transfers like QB DJ Uigalelei, RB Roydell Williams, and WR Malik Benson. Those three will be incredible replacements from last year's dominant squad. Additionally, the Florida State defense is filled with upperclassmen. Florida State's defense is well-coached and always prepared. Last year's defense was the initial reason why FSU won the ACC. On the other hand, Haynes King will get the start for Georgia Tech at quarterback. While his quarterback play was good last season, Georgia Tech's run game was better. It's also unlikely that Georgia Tech will find much running room against Florida State. Therefore, it'll be hard to find big plays down the field when Georgia Tech falls early. Grab Florida State at -10.5.
Pick: Florida State -10.5 (-112)

Montana State vs. New Mexico
The Montana State Bobcats are going to win this game. Theyâre one of the best teams in the FCS, while the New Mexico Lobos are beginning a rebuild that is going to take years. But this line has gotten out of hand. When the lines first came out the Bobcats were favored by just 4.5 points. That line quickly shot up to double digits, as oddsmakers realized that the Bobcats were significantly better even with Bronco Mendenhall at the helm for the Lobos. But to see this number at 12 is pretty absurd. The Bobcats have a very good offense, and the Lobos have a very bad defense, but the Bobcats are also used to beating up on FCS opponents. While the Lobos will still lose, theyâre the home team, and theyâre going to keep this closer than the public expects.
Pick: New Mexico +12 (-110)

SMU vs. Nevada
Thanks to their offense, SMU has the potential to be a dark horse in the ACC. They finished last season eight with points scored per game (38.7) and returned some of their prominent players. That includes junior Preston Stone, who, in his first year as the starter, had an incredible 28/6 TD/INT ratio, and considering that he can throw the ball downfield, that's a great feat. They also have a great assembly of running backs with Jaylan Knighton, LJ Johnson Jr., and Camar Wheaton, who will bring a change of pace to this offense. It's been disastrous for Nevada since Jay Norvell left for Colorado State. After Ken Wilson went 4-20 in two seasons, he's out, and former Montana State head coach Jeff Choate is in. This offense doesn't look like it will be a threat with Brendon Lewis, who threw just two touchdowns in 12 games. SMU's offense should put up big numbers, and their defense doesn't have to be great to stop what could be one of the worst offenses in the country.
Pick: SMU -25 (-110)

Delaware State vs. Hawaii
The Delaware State Hornets of the FCS travel to the islands to battle the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the season opener for both. Hawaii won five games last season, finishing up with three wins in the final four games in November after a slow start. Hawaii played on Week 0 last season, too, coming up just short in a 35-28 loss to Vanderbilt in a highly-entertaining game, covering as a 17-point underdog. The last time Hawaii faced an FCS team, Sept. 9, 2023, it won 31-20 against UAlbany as a 7.5-point favorite. It covered against Duquesne in 2022, too. Theyâre a respectable 7-4-1 ATS in the past 12 games against FCS opponents, too. Former stud QB Timmy Chang has brought the run-and-shoot offense back to the islands, and the offense continues to take root again. The team looks to take another step forward in 2024. It can get off to a good start with experienced QB Brayden Schager against a Del State team which has seven FBS transfers, but just one All-MEAC player, TE E.J. Core, a 2nd teamer. Del State was winless in MEAC play in 2023. Itâs going to be another long season in Dover under new coach Lee Hull. However, this line is just high enough. Take the visitors, who should be able to cling to the cover, just barely.
Pick: Delaware State +38.5 (-110)
