Despite its carousel of big-name head coaches trying to do so, Miami has not been the powerhouse it once was. Mario Cristobal is next on the list to try and bring the Hurricanes a National Championship, but so far, it hasn’t worked out, as the team is only 12-13 in his last two seasons. Washington State transfer Cam Ward is the new quarterback, and he possesses a big arm and had 7.7 yards per completion and a 66.6 completion percentage. 

Miami’s rush defense was superb last year, finishing 11th in rushing yards per game, but unfortunately, the passing defense was not. They have brought in an all-new secondary, so hopefully, they can get better.

What could help Miami is that Florida’s offense had a lot of trouble going vertical last year. Graham Mertz isn’t a big-time passer and finds his spots, but the offense struggled at times to give him efficient time in the pocket and give lanes to their running backs.

Miami getting a win against an SEC team, even a below-average one, is a good way to start the season, especially if they can do it in a hostile environment like The Swamp.
