College Football Week 10 Odds & Picks: Best Early Bets (2024)

Can you believe it’s already about to be Week 10 in college football?!

We’ve got a little over a month of college football until it’s championship week in all of the conferences.

That said, this week’s slate includes some really important games. Below are two games to attack early in the week.

College Football Top Early Week Picks (Week 10)

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

Just when you thought Penn State seriously had a chance at knocking off Ohio State, Drew Allar goes down with an injury.

Allar’s status is currently up in the air. For now, it will be Beau Pribula under center for the Nittany Lions. While it’ll help to be at home, Pribula doesn’t have much experience. Don’t get me wrong. The sophomore backup looked good against Wisconsin, throwing 11-for-13 for 96 yards and a touchdown. But this is Ohio State we’re talking about.

The Buckeyes’ defense stepped up against Nebraska and held Dylan Riola to just 152 yards in the air with one interception.

Ohio State’s offense is loaded with talent. However, under Will Howard, it hasn’t been efficient. At home, against Nebraska, Ohio State earned only 11 first downs and went 1-for-10 on third downs. That needs to improve. However, against Penn State’s defense, the chances of change are rare in Happy Valley.

Ohio State and Penn State each have lots of talent. But we don’t know Penn State’s quarterback situation, while Ohio State couldn’t even earn 300 yards against Nebraska last week.

I’ll grab the Under 47.5 (-115) in this Big Ten rivalry matchup.

    Pick: Under 47.5 (-115)

Minnesota Gophers vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Minnesota has really turned things around over the last month.

The Gophers have wins against USC, UCLA, and Maryland. Last week’s win against Maryland was the most encouraging. At home, the Gophers added a 48-23 win against Maryland behind Max Brosmer’s four-touchdown day. Minnesota proved it can do more than just run the football with Darius Taylor. It’s a dangerous group now.

On the other hand, Illinois took a beating from Oregon on the road, losing 38-9. This is the type of game that could derail the season. A loss to the No. 1 team in the nation by 31 isn’t so great for the morale. It’s easy to get down and start playing below standards after a loss like that.

Minnesota is coming in with much more momentum. The defense hasn’t allowed more than 23 points in three straight games, and now the offense has shown that it can run and throw the ball well.

Although it’s hard to win on the road in the Big Ten, Minnesota checks off most of the boxes against Illinois. The Fighting Illini needed to escape Purdue at home in overtime on October 12 and used overtime to beat Nebraska on the road. Illinois could easily be 4-4 on the season.

    Give me Minnesota at -2.

    Pick: Minnesota -2 (-110)
