College Football Week 12 Odds & Picks: Best Early Bets (2024)

Last week, we backed two home underdogs, hoping at least one would come through. That happened after Ole Miss dominated Georgia from start to finish.

After adding a slight profit last week, we’re back looking for more as we head into Week 12 of the college football season.

    Tennessee Volunteers vs. Georgia Bulldogs

I picked against Georgia last week and won. The Georgia Bulldogs haven’t looked like the Georgia of old this season. Carson Beck has been an interception machine, and the defense isn’t getting many stops.

However, Georgia will be prepared at home against Tennessee. The Bulldogs’ first two losses came on the road, but they haven’t lost at home. When everyone turned against Georgia before their game against Texas, the Bulldogs added a fine defensive performance and held the Longhorns to 15 points on the road.

Since that game, Georgia hasn’t been elite. But Tennessee hasn’t, either. The Vols have just one loss in conference play and are in the thick of the SEC and CFP race. Tennessee has won four consecutive games since losing to Arkansas on the road. They needed overtime to beat Florida, escaped Alabama (which was great), defeated Kentucky in a close one, and dominated Mississippi. However, the theme is that Tennessee has four consecutive home games after the road loss to Arkansas.

Remember when Tennessee was almost upset on the road against Oklahoma? Playing against Georgia on the road is a whole other animal.

The Bulldogs should be able to get more pressure on Nico Iamaleava and force some turnovers. Let’s back Georgia at -9.5 here.

    Pick: Georgia -9.5 (-110)

    Kansas Jayhawks vs. BYU Cougars

The Kansas Jayhawks might be 3-6. However, they’ve got three more games to play. A bowl game is still on the table after a 45-36 win over No. 17 Iowa State last weekend.

While Kansas has a poor record, it’s been in most games. The Jayhawks lost to Illinois by six, UNLV by three, West Virginia by four, Arizona State by four, and Kansas State by two. The Jayhawks have been competitive; they just haven’t been able to finish games well.

It almost happened again last week. Despite a 31-13 lead after two quarters, Iowa State outscored Kansas in the second half, 23-14. The offense didn’t score at all in the fourth quarter but could still hang on to the win.

On the other hand, they’ll take on a BYU squad that is typically dominant offensively. The Cougars only scored 22 points against Utah in a controversial win at the buzzer. The Cougars are now 9-0 and have done precisely what Kansas hasn’t been able to do.

That said, both teams have elite offenses. Kansas has scored 30 points per game, and BYU has added 35.13 points per game. With both teams struggling to get pressure on the quarterback and neither team tackling at a high rate, I like the Over 56 for this late-night Big 12 matchup.

    Pick: Over 56 (-108)
