Top College Football Odds & Picks: Week 13

Buffalo vs. Eastern Michigan

Sometimes the line says it all. An Eastern Michigan team that’s reeling after three straight losses is laying points against bowl-eligible Buffalo. But it’s fair to wonder if Buffalo’s 6-4 record is more of a mirage than anything else. The Buffalo defense has fallen off a cliff as of late. The Bulls have surrendered at least 30 points in each of their last four games. The Eagles don’t have the most robust offense, but they have the passing game to exploit a Bulls secondary that has surrendered at least 300 yards through the air over their last two games. Eastern Michigan gets to bowl eligiblity here, and I’m laying the short number.

Pick: Eastern Michigan -2.5

Ohio vs. Toledo

Both Ohio and Toledo sit near the top of MAC standings and this game will go a long way for both teams if they want to make it to the conference championship game. Ohio has benefitted greatly from a weak schedule so far. The five wins on the Bobcats’ schedule come against MAC opponents that are a combined 7-22 in league play, with their lone loss coming in a 30-20 defeat to Miami, where they were outgained in yards per play by a tally of 3.8 to 6.4. Toledo, for all their flaws, is a much more battle-tested team with wins over the same Miami team and NIU, as well as a power conference win over Mississippi State. Toledo QB Tucker Gleason is second in the conference in passing TDs with 19 headed into the week and his passer rating of 141.0 is good enough for third best. The Toledo pass attack has been effective all year and ranks 60th in EPA per play in the nation. This is an Ohio defense that is weaker against the pass than the run as evidenced by the 8.5 yards per attempt surrendered in the loss to Miami. I’ll back the home favorite Rockets on senior night.

Pick: Toledo -1.5
