College Football Week 2 Early Odds, Picks & Prediction: Appalachian State vs. Texas A&M
Appalachian State is comfortable in this spot. They're a program that has never shied away from playing Power 5 competition, and in turn, they've found ways to overperform in these situations. The week 2 matchup with Texas A&M comes after an emotional and thrilling defeat at the hands of North Carolina over the weekend. Texas A&M is the most talented team on the schedule for the Mountaineers and will be a tough matchup, but App State is rightfully the Sun Belt championship favorite and is more than capable of keeping this game close.
There isn't much to take from Texas A&M's 31-0 win over FCS Sam Houston State in week 1. Haynes King was boom or bust passing the ball with three long touchdown passes accounting for half his yards in the air, while also throwing two interceptions. App State will provide a tougher challenge for the Aggies on both sides of the ball. If the Aggies make mistakes, App State will be able to take advantage with a quick strike offense that was on full display against North Carolina in week 1. With the Mountaineersâ level of talent and pedigree in these games, I expect them to keep this game competitive down to the wire.
Pick: Appalachian State +17 (-109)
What is Betting Against the Spread?
Betting "against the spread" refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.
What is an Over/Under Bet?
Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.
What is a Moneyline Bet?
A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
