College Football Week 3 Anytime Touchdown Scorer Odds & Picks (2023)

We’re through two weeks of the college football season, and the way it sits right now, I’m 4-2 on my touchdown prop bets on the year. I’ve used Notre Dame running back Audric Estime on back-to-back weeks, but I’m going to fade him this week. Not because I don’t like the matchup but just because I want to show some love to other players who have had strong starts to the season. Even though I love having a running back touchdown prop on my bet slip, I’m going to go all wide receivers this week due to some intriguing passing attacks. Let’s jump into my top three favorite touchdown scorers for week 3 of college football!

LSU vs. Mississippi State

The Bulldogs of Mississippi State needed some serious help from their defense to hold off Arizona last week. Their defense forced five turnovers and kept Arizona inches away from a 4th down conversion in overtime. Unfortunately for them, they’re playing LSU this week, and despite a tough week one loss to Florida State, I’d expect LSU to play much better than what they did in Week 1.

While there’s plenty of attention towards wide receiver Malik Nabers, there’s another receiver being slept on in the LSU offense. That receiver is Brian Thomas Jr., for the Tigers. Through two weeks of the season, he has 13 receptions for 220 yards and three touchdowns. With so much attention drawn to Nabers, I believe that Thomas could see some 1-on-1 opportunities. Especially down in the red-zone. Keep in mind that Arizona just torched Mississippi State through the air for over 340 yards last week. I’d look for his 6-foot-4 and 200 pound frame to have another strong performance as LSU aims to be 2-1 after the third week of the season.

Bet: Brian Thomas Jr over 0.5 receiving touchdowns (+130)

Washington vs. Michigan State

The Michigan State defense has only given up two red zone touchdowns this year. Both of them came through the air. With that, they’re facing one of the best red zone offenses in the country with the Washington Huskies. Of the 12 red zone attempts that Washington has had, they’ve scored 11 times. Six of those times were passing touchdowns.

With Michael Penix Jr., under center for the Huskies, they’ve become one of the better offenses in the country. In addition to Penix being able to sling it, he’s got two legit weapons at wide receiver with Jalen McMillan and Rome Odunze. That said, this Washington offense could score just about anywhere on the field, it doesn’t have to just be in the red-zone.

With news and attention being directed toward Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker being suspended for allegations made by Brenda Tracy, I think this team could be distracted. Meanwhile, I’ve watched the Spartans every weekend as a fan, and I’m just not a fan of their defense or defensive coordinator, Scottie Hazleton. I don’t think this game will be particularly close, but I do believe that Jalen McMillan can and will add to the season touchdown total. He’s already got three touchdowns, and I think we could see him score at least once in this game.

Bet: Jalen McMillan over 0.5 receiving touchdowns (-165

Vanderbilt vs. UNLV

One of the most underrated receivers in all of college football right now is Will Sheppard from Vanderbilt. He’s been on absolute fire to start the season with 20 receptions for 217 yards and six touchdowns. This weekend he’ll get to play a UNLV team that is giving up 271.5 passing yards per game, and they just got torched for over 300 yards passing from Michigan. At 6-foot-3 and 198 pounds, Sheppard has been on fire in the red-zone for Vandy, and it should continue. He’s a good route runner that has a flexible lower half while maintaining the desired body control to win 50/50 balls. Certainly, Vanderbilt is nothing like Michigan when it comes to talent, but Sheppard can certainly get the job done for the Commodores.

Bet: Will Sheppard over 0.5 receiving touchdowns (-145)
