College Football Week 3 Early Odds, Picks & Prediction: Tulane at Kansas State
This line is heavily juiced towards Kansas State following the Wildcats' 40-12 blowout win over Missouri last weekend. KSU's defense played awesome, but the final margin of victory was also highly attributable to Mizzou's stinky QB play - the Tigers threw four interceptions on only 31 attempts.
KSU has one of the nation's most dynamic offensive weapons in RB Deuce Vaughn, who ran for 145 yards against Mizzou. But the offense is one-dimensional. KSU QB Adrian Martinez went just 9-of-20 for 101 yards. The Wildcats don't have much of a receiving corps.
Tulane, also 2-0, isn't getting respect because nobody has seen them play yet. The Green Wave has outscored opponents 94-10, but those opponents were an FCS team and a quasi-FCS team in UMass.
Tulane returned 18 starters, nine on each side of the ball. Last year's offense was plagued by injuries and questionable play-calling. HC Willie Fritz forced out former OC Chip Long over the offseason - the players didn't like Long, and his fellow coaches believed his playcalling was cringingly predictable.
Tulane QB Michael Pratt is finally healthy after playing compromised last year with head and shoulder injuries. Last year's defense struggled in the first half of 2021 but was the No. 2 defense in the AAC over the final six games.
This matchup is closer in actuality than the spread would have you believe. Sharps agree with me. This line opened KSU -16 and dropped to KSU -14 within a day. Buy the ticket before it drops beneath that key number.
Pick: Tulane (+14)
What is Betting Against the Spread?
Betting "against the spread" refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.
What is an Over/Under Bet?
Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.
What is a Moneyline Bet?
A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
