College Football Week 6 Injury Report: Minnesota, Baylor, West Virginia

Minnesota (bye)

Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim missed Saturday’s 20-10 upset loss to Purdue. Nobody knew Ibrahim was injured until it was reported shortly before kickoff that he would be inactive.

Gophers HC PJ Fleck downplayed concern after the Purdue game and said Ibrahim should return for Minnesota’s next game. In fact, Fleck said Ibrahim could have played, but he wanted to be cautious.

Anecdotally, Ibrahim was fully dressed and seemingly moving normally on the sidelines for the duration of the Purdue game. It’s possible Fleck withheld him for precautionary reasons. And after the upset loss, it’s also possible that Fleck is rueing that decision.

The Gophers are on bye this week. One week from Saturday, Minnesota travels to Illinois. Unless there’s something more ominous under the surface that Fleck is hiding from us, Ibrahim will return to his bell-cow role in that game.

Baylor (bye)

Baylor RB Taye McWilliams missed his third-consecutive game on Saturday versus Oklahoma State with an undisclosed injury. McWilliams opened the campaign as the starter, but he may find that he’s been usurped for the top spot in the pecking order by youngster RB Richard Reese when he returns.

West Virginia (bye)

West Virginia RB CJ Donaldson was carted off the field in a backboard wearing a neck restraint during Saturday’s loss to Texas. His helmet struck a defender’s knee after he was thrown to the ground by another.

The good news is that Donaldson was moving his extremities when the game concluded. He was cleared to travel home with the team. Donaldson has been a revelation, rushing for more than 100 yards in three of WVU’s first four games.

West Virginia has a bye for Donaldson to begin his rehab. It’s unclear at this time what Donaldson’s recovery timeline looks like. The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 13, against Baylor. WVU will need to be downgraded by a point or two if Donaldson is ruled out for that game.

What is Betting Against the Spread?

Betting “against the spread” refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.

What is an Over/Under Bet?

Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.

What is a Moneyline Bet?

A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
