Top College Football Odds & Picks: Week 8

Florida State vs. Duke

The Seminoles head to Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham to meet with the Blue Devils, and Florida State might be the most shocking story of the entire college football season. This was a top-10 team in the preseason rankings, but the season has been a maelstrom. It all started with a stunning loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland. Hurricanes have hit the Tallahassee area. The ‘Noles didn’t get their money’s worth from QB D.J. Uiagalelei, and then he suffered a fractured finger in the SMU game, another embarrassing loss, and that injury required surgery. Florida State heads to Durham looking to avoid a sixth loss, while trying to keep its faint hopes of any kind of postseason game alive. Duke is 5-1, and one of the better stories in the ACC. It is on the precipice of bowl eligibility, but it had some cold water splashed on it in a 24-14 loss at Georgia Tech, as the Yellow Jackets have stung both of these teams. There is very little reason to believe in FSU, as redshirt freshman QB Brock Glenn gets the start against Duke, a team which is 10th in the nation against the pass. However, Duke has never beaten Florida State in 20 times on the gridiron, and somehow, some way, FSU will get it done. If you’re more conservative, take the points, but if you are more of a gambler, moneyline it.

Pick: Florida State +3.5

Oregon vs. Purdue

Oregon is coming off one of the biggest wins in problem history, but they have to turn around in a short week and play an inferior team. A few weeks ago, they could not have won that game against Ohio State; the defense wasn’t playing up to par, the offensive line was allowing pressure, and they were relying more on explosive plays. Now, this looks like a championship team. They must come in with the same intensity playing an undefeated Ohio State as they do against a 1-5 Purdue. The Boilermakers are 101st in points scored and 129th in points allowed, but we’ve seen some 20+ underdogs get the straight-up win. If Purdue was respectable on either side of the ball, we could see them covering, but this should be an easy win for the Ducks.

Pick: Oregon -28.5

Oklahoma State vs. BYU

The Cowboys have lost back-to-back games by more than 20 points, including a 38-14 beatdown against West Virginia last week. The Cowboys have now lost three games in a row, and a lot of their issues stem from turnovers. Quarterback Alan Bowman has thrown an interception in five consecutive games and two interceptions in three consecutive. The Cougars are tied for the third-most interceptions in the nation, so it’s unlikely that the Cowboys’ turnover woes cease, even if Bowman is replaced before or during this game. The Cougars have scored at least 34 points in four consecutive games. They should hit that number again on Friday against a struggling defense, and if they do, the Cowboys’ offense won’t be able to keep up.

Pick: BYU -9
