College Football Week 8 Odds, Picks & Prediction: Minnesota vs. Penn State
Another big game resulted in another big loss for James Franklin and his Penn State Nittany Lions last week, as a close game at half turned into a 17-41 blowout at Michigan. Once again, senior QB Sean Clifford was pedestrian when they needed him most, throwing for just 120 yards on the day with no touchdowns. With the typical middle-of-the-road offense, the defense largely let Penn State down in this one, giving up over 550 yards on the day, 418 of which came on the ground.
As for the Gophers, a 4-0 start in which they gave up no more than 10 points in any of the games has been followed up by two straight losses; both as favorites and both by double digits. Their latest was especially discouraging a 14-26 vs. Illinois.
Even with the loss, Penn State remains a top-20 team and rich in talent nearly everywhere on both sides of the ball. Look for them to bounce back in this spot.
