Top College Football Odds & Picks: Week 8

Georgia State vs. Marshall

The Panthers of Georgia State hit the road for Huntington looking to get on track in this Sun Belt battle. GSU is just 2-3 SU, and it has only one win against an FBS opponent, but that came against Vanderbilt, a team which shocked No. 1 Alabama. So, the talent is there for the Panthers to compete with an SEC program, but the consistency is not there on a regulat basis. It’s mostly a defense thing, as the Panthers have coughed up 21 or more points in all five games to date, inckuding 30.3 PPG in the past three outings. Georgia State is 1-4 ATS overall, too. For Marshall, it is coming off a debilitating 24-23 loss at Georgia Southern as a 1-point ‘dog. Marshall has tasted a little more success than its counterpart, going 5-0-1 ATS overall on the season, including covers at Virginia Tech and at Ohio State. This team runs the ball really well, going for 201.7 yards per game, and that will be the difference here. Georgia State allows 174.8 rushing yards per game. Look for a closer game in the first half, with the Herd pulling away in the second half.

Pick: Marshall -8.5

Boston College vs. Virginia Tech

This is a bad matchup for the Eagles. The Hokies have one of the best pass defenses in football, and the Eagles love to do most of their damage through the air. Though the Hokies’ run defense can be exploited, the Eagles rank 88th in total rushing offense this season. The Eagles have a very good run defense, so they could make it hard for Bhaysul Tuten to find room on the ground. But Tuten has been one of the best runners in the nation this season, rushing for at least 115 yards in four of his six games. Even if he does struggle, Kyron Drones will do enough for the Hokies to simply outscore an Eagles’ offense that has looked a bit lost in recent weeks.

Pick: Virginia Tech -7
