College Football Week 9 Odds, Picks & Prediction: Thursday
Virginia Tech vs. NC State
The Atlantic side of the ACC conference appeared well within NC Stateâs reach just a few weeks ago, but an October 15th loss at Syracuse has those chances dwindling. The loss of star QB Devin Leary the week prior was likely the true culprit, as Jack Chambers now has had a bye week to prepare for this start.
As the Wolfpack look to get back on track at home, theyâll be welcoming in a team free falling in their own right. Since a 2-1 start picking up wins vs. Wofford and Boston College, Virginia Tech comes into this one having lost their past four straight. Ranking in the bottom 15 in college football in points per game (19.1), total offensive yards per game (323), and rushing yards (108), the Hokies have struggled mightily to put points on the board.
That should bode well for an NC State defense that remains stellar, allowing just 16.9 per game.
Utah vs. Washington State
Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Southern Miss
While we wait for the beginning of weekday MACtion next week, weâll start with a Thursday night appetizer from the Sun Belt. Both Louisiana and Southern Miss are 4-3 and desperately need a win to get one step closer to bowl eligibility.
The difference in this game will be a Golden Eaglesâ defense thatâs proven to be legitimate this season. Southern Mississippi boasts the 23rd-best run defense in the nation, while the Louisiana offense ranks outside the top 75 in both rushing and passing.
Offensively, Southern Miss isnât a pretty operation, but it could have success running the ball against the Raginâ Cajuns, who have surrendered 489 yards on the ground in their three losses.
It isnât the prettiest start to our Week 9 betting card. But back Southern Mississippi to ride their defense to a win at home.
