Top College Football Picks: Week 9 (Tuesday)
Sam Houston State vs. FIU
Midweek C-USA kicks off with Sam Houston State traveling to play FIU. Itâs been a rough start to the season for FIU. Theyâre 2-5 overall and 1-2 to start conference play. The loss last week to UTEP is sitting top of mind for many people but FIU has been much more competitive than theyâve shown. What killed them in that game was four turnovers in crucial spots. This is a team that competed with Liberty, beat Louisiana Tech and Central Michigan and played one of the more competitive games Indiana has faced all season. They arenât a strong offense, as they rank 113th )in EPA per play, but their defense has shown up in some games this season when they needed it. Sam Houston State has looked good out of the gates with a 5-2 start and 2-1 in conference. Their offense has been playing well, as theyâve scored 31 or more points in each win this season, but itâs the defense, especially against weak offenses, that have shown up. This could be a warm game at kickoff and that could leave both teams gassed. This looks to play out as a C-USA slugfest and Iâll be on the under.
Pick: Under 47.5

UTEP vs. Louisiana Tech
The Miners of UTEP hit the road for Ruston to battle the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. UTEP has been a disaster this season, benching QB Skyler Locklear in favor of QB Cade McConnell. It has made a bit of a difference, as the offense has been somewhat functional lately, going for 30 points in a victory against FIU last week. UTEP is averaging 22.7 PPG on offense in the past three games, and it snapped an 0-3 ATS skid last week in the win over FIU. La. Tech suffered a bummer of a 33-30 OT loss at New Mexico State, costly in their pursuit of bowl eligibility. It can get back on track against a struggling UTEP team, and itâs surprising this line isnât more than a touchdown. While the Bulldogs are just 3-3 ATS overall, theyâre 2-1 ATS at home. And, two of the teamâs losses are in OT, with three losses by one score. This Louisiana Tech team isnât nearly as far away from being good as UTEP has been. Look for the Bulldogs to get well as the expense of the Miners.
Pick: Louisiana Tech -6.5
