Colombia (-320) vs. Panama (+950), DRAW (+425) | 2.5 (-120/-105)
Saturdayâs action gets started with a matchup between heavily favored Colombia and Panama. Colombia got here by winning Group D with a 2-1-0 record (+4 GD), while Panama placed second in Group C with a record of 2-0-1 (+1 GD). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, USA.
Iâm fairly confident that Colombia will take care of business Saturday evening. Theyâve been playing superb soccer over the last 10 months, posting an unbeaten record of 11-4-0 across all competitions. However, just three of those matches have been multi-goal victories! So, Iâm hesitant to lay 1.5 goals (-110) in this spot. With all of that being said, I think both offenses have enough firepower for this game to make it over the total.
Over the above-mentioned 15-game stretch, Colombia is averaging 1.9 goals per match. They racked up six goals during the group stage, while also posting a respectable 5.0 xG (expected goals). Honestly, thereâs a chance they tally three goals themselves.
If we have to rely on Panamaâs offense to cash this ticket, I believe theyâre capable. They amassed six goals during the group stage, including scoring multiple goals in each of their final two matches. Their last four matches have each featured at least three goals. While Iâm typically not looking to bet overs in the knockout stage, I think this is a great spot.
Bet: Over 2.5 Total Goals (-120)
Uruguay (+185) vs. Brazil (+170), DRAW (+205) | 2.5 (+135/-170)
Saturdayâs nightcap is going to be a fantastic match as Uruguay and Brazil square off in a battle of juggernauts. Uruguay cruised to a Group C victory at 3-0-0 (+8 GD), while Brazil went 1-2-0 (+3 GD) in Group D, which was good enough for the runner-up spot. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. ET from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
This is going to be a heavyweight tilt, and itâs easily the best match of the quarterfinal round. From a betting perspective, Iâm taking it to the prop sheet, where Iâm saying there will be exactly one or two goals in the match. You can find this under the âGame Propsâ tab on DraftKings Sportsbook, and youâll see a subcategory with âTotal Goals (Bands)â.
Goals are going to be tough to come by in this match. For starters, Brazil will be without Vinicius Júnior, one of its craftiest players, who is out due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Dorival Júniorâs squad is coming off a 1-1 tie with Colombia in the group stage, and I think this is a pretty comparable match in terms of the level of opponent. As weâve seen with some of the big-time matches in both Copa America and the Euros, defenses often rise up when the stakes are the highest. Itâs tough to find space out there with these world-class defenses.
Speaking of space, one of the interesting facts about this tournament is the matches are being played on smaller pitches. The fields are just 100 meters by 64 meters when theyâre normally 105 x 68 meters. Thereâs already not a lot of space for the offenses to get creative, and now take away a few meters when everyoneâs just too bunched up in the final third.
I think weâre in for a 1-0 or 1-1 match in Sin City on Saturday. I wish I could tell you who was going to win, but this game really is a toss-up. Iâm most confident leaning on these premier defenses. I expect a lower-scoring battle, but both teams still have the offensive talent to break through for a goal.
Bet: Total Goals (Bands): 1-2 Goals (-115)
