Overview

Dayton’s season looked over in the opening round, as it trailed Nevada by 17 points with under eight minutes in the second half. But the Flyers ended the game on a 24-4 run to earn their spot in the Round of 32 against an Arizona team that is looking for its second Sweet 16 appearance in the last three years.

Dayton Flyers Betting Preview

No. 6 seed Dayton was an underdog to No. 11 seed Nevada on Thursday, and entering the day, teams with the better seed that were underdogs to teams seeding at least two spots lower than them were 22-31-1 ATS and 19-35 SU in the last 18 years.

Arizona Wildcats Betting Preview

Arizona is looking to become the first team west of Texas to win the national championship since it last did it in 1997. The Wildcats had lost two of three games entering the NCAA Tournament before beating Long Beach State 85-65 in the opening round.

Dayton Flyers vs. Arizona Wildcats Betting Pick and Prediction

Prior to scoring 85 points on Thursday, Arizona’s top-three scoring offense (87.9 points per game) looked rather pedestrian while going 1-2 in two games against USC and one against Oregon. The Trojans and Ducks masterfully limited Arizona’s transition offense and held it to 64.7 points per game, as the Wildcats had difficulty generating offense in the half-court. That is likely to be Dayton’s exact game plan, using its 336th-ranked tempo to make the game a half-court grind.

Dayton has the A-10’s best player in DaRon Holmes, but what he means to the Flyers offensively, he means just as much defensively, as one of the best rim protectors in the country. That will come in handy against a Wildcats team that entered the tournament scoring 42.6 points per game in the paint (third in D-I). But Arizona is also an underrated defensive team, ranking 10th in adjusted defensive efficiency, and its length on the perimeter should frustrate Dayton’s shooters that are responsible for the third-highest 3-point percentage in the country.

The Under cashed in four of Dayton’s six games as an underdog, and is 5-2 in Arizona’s seven games at neutral sites this season, which has us backing it as the right side of the total in this contest, especially with this early morning tip on the West Coast.

Pick: Under 151 (-110 at Caesars)
