Ecuador vs. Jamaica

Ecuador is going to be playing with some desperation after suffering a 2-1 loss in the opening game against Venezuela. It looked like El Tricolor might be able to hold on, despite losing captain Enner Valencia to a high boot and red card at just the 22nd minute. As a result, Ecuador was forced to play the entirety of the match a man down with just 10 players.

In the 40th minute, Jeremy Sarmiento struck one with his right foot into the bottom corner on a set piece and Ecuador opened the scoring. They held the break at half time. The good feelings didn’t last long, however, as Jhonder Cadiz buried one into the bottom right corner on a pass from Salomon Rondon, leveling the score at 1-1. Just 10 minutes late, Eduard Bello caused the Venezuelan faithful to erupt when he struck one from the right side of the six-yard box into the same spot Cadiz hit, giving La Vinotinto the lead, and eventual 2-1 win.

Ecuador is used to this position, as it has dropped the initial match of group stage play in each of the previous three Copa America events. It is on a nine-match winless streak in major tournaments, too, so that’s a little bit of a concern.

Jamaica maintained possession for just 36% of its opening match against Mexico. Despite the disparity, it lost only 1-0 against a good Mexican side. Mexico had 20 shot attempts, including nine on target, to just 13 attempts and four on target for the Reggae Boyz. It was a rather clean match, too, with eight fouls for Mexico, and seven for Jamaica, but no yellow or red cards were shown. Mexico had a slight edge on corners, too.

Jamaica lit up Dominica in a World Cup qualifier on June 9, but in the past four matches, it has managed to find the back of the net just three times. A power outage on offense is a huge concern, especially against an angry Ecuador side that is going to be pressing hard after getting zero points against Venezuela.

The Jamaican side just doesn’t seem to have much offense, at least against other world-class squads. And Ecuador is going to be frosted after losing its captain early, and then the match. Look for Ecuador, who entered as a dark horse in this tournament, to get well with three points and a win. You can’t bet the Moneyline straight up, as risking two times your potential return is too much. But as part of a Same-Game Parlay (SGP) or multi-leg parlay, it’s perfectly fine.
