English Premier League (EPL) Matchday 3 Preview, Odds & Picks (2022)
Just two weeks into the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) season, the familiar names have risen to the top, as Manchester City sits atop the league along with Arsenal. The real news story, however, comes with whatâs happening at the bottom, as Manchester United sits in dead last at 0-2 with a goal differential of -5.
Letâs take a closer look at a couple of games I see value in this week.
Saturday Games
Tottenham vs. Wolves
Picking up right where they left off in 2021-22 with a spot in the Champions League secured, Tottenham is off to another torrid pace this season through their first two games. Picking up a 4-1 win vs. Southampton to start the season, they ground out a 2-2 draw vs. Chelsea last week on the road in a game that turned into a back and forth dog fight.
On the other side of this matchup, the Wolves have looked amongst the worst teams in EPL through two games. Losing their opening round match to lowly Leeds, the Wolves failed to find the back of the net last week vs. Fulham and have little in the way of scoring threats to speak of.
Pick: Tottenham 1H (-120)
Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa
Led by former Nice manager Patrick Vieira, Crystal Palace has bolstered their roster this season, and many are calling for them to be a real threat at the top of the EPL. So far, so good, as Crystal Palace. The schedule makers didnât do them any favors, however, as they opened up against Arsenal and Liverpool, going 0-1-1 to this point despite playing strong in both.
Theyâll now welcome an Aston Villa team who was dealt some layups in their opening two games, going 1-1-0 with a goal differential of -1. Led by striker Wilfried Zaha, I like for Palace to find the winning column as their strong play is finally rewarded with a statement win.
Pick: Crystal Palace +145
Bournemouth vs. Arsenal
Finishing fifth on the table last season just outside of Champions League seeding, Arsenal is back on a mission this year to get what they feel is theirs. So far, so good, as they sit 2-0 through two games with a goal differential of +2 as Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli lead the way with four combined goals.
For the newly promoted Bournemouth, their first win is behind them, as is their first loss, as they come into week three 1-1-0 with a goal differential of -2. While they might remain in the middle of the table this season, I like Arsenal to beat their chest in this one, pulling away late with a big win.
Pick: Arsenal -1 +125
