French Open 2022: Maria Sakkari Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction
History was made on the Men's side at the Australian Open earlier this season, as Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev for his 21st Grand Slam title. That broke a three-way tie that he was previously a part of with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who each have won 20 career Grand Slams.
The second major of the tennis season is the French Open at Roland Garros, which will run from May 22nd to June 5th. The clay surface is difficult for even the best of players to adapt to, as evidenced by the fact that just three of Federer's and Djokovic's combined 40 Grand Slam titles have been won at Roland Garros. Even Pete Sampras, who ranks fourth on the all-time list of Grand Slam champions, never won a French Open title.
This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to the French Open, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men's and Women's Draws.
Is Rafael Nadal a shoo-in for his 14th French Open title, which would be five more than any other player won at any Grand Slam event? Will we have our ninth different women's champion in the last nine years? Or can Barbora Krejcikova become the first repeat champion since Justine Henin's three-peat from 2005-07?
Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Maria Sakkari in the 2022 French Open.

Maria Sakkari French Open History
After never winning more than two matches in a French Open, Sakkari made her deepest run at Roland Garros last year, winning four of her first five matches in straight sets. She beat three consecutive women seeded 14th or better in that run, with her most significant win coming in the quarterfinals against Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4. Granted, that win over Swiatek was before her dominant run of this past year and before her ascension to the WTA No. 1 ranking, but it still was a massive win nonetheless. Sakkari's other two wins over seeded players last year at Roland Garros were a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 4 Sofia Kenin and a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 win over Elise Mertens.
Sakkari is 10-5 all-time in French Open matches.
Maria Sakkari Recent Form
Sakkari does not enter in the best form, losing five of her last eight matches and failing to reach the quarterfinals of her previous three tournaments. However, she could have had more momentum heading to Roland Garros if she did not let a golden opportunity in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Open slip through her hands. After facing just one break point, Sakkari won the first set against Ons Jabeur 6-1 and served for the match at 5-2 in the second set. However, Jabeur broke Sakkari's serve twice to level the set at 5-5 before winning 7-5. That seemingly broke Sakkari's spirits, as she lost the third set 6-1.
Sakkari has climbed to No. 4 in the world rankings despite just one WTA title to her name at the 2019 Morocco Open.
Maria Sakkari French Open Predictions
The Pick: Maria Sakkari to Lose Before the Semifinals
Sakkari has the second-best odds to win the third quarter, as her +600 odds only are worse than Ons Jabeurâs +390 odds. However, Jabeurâs 11-match winning streak through tournaments in Madrid and Rome makes her the rightful favorite to get out of this quarter and makes a second consecutive trip to the semifinals for Sakkari unlikely. Many will back the No. 4 seed Sakkari to at least reach the semifinals, especially after an impressive performance at Indian Wells earlier this season. However, Jabeur has a tour-leading 17 wins this season, which has us fading Sakkari to win her quarter.
