Fresno State Bulldogs vs. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Odds & Game Pick (2021)

One of the biggest surprises of the 2021 college football season thus far, the Fresno State Bulldogs now head to Hawaii looking to improve to 5-1 (5-1 ATS) on the season. For the home Warriors, multiple stumbles out of the gate are not what many had in mind for a team thought to be improved themselves.

Let's take a closer look at two teams trending in opposite directions.

Overview

The #18 Bulldogs have been led thus far by quarterback Jake Haener and his WR1 Jalen Cropper, as both are near the top of the country’s best in terms of production. Haener has 15 touchdowns through his first five games, as Cropper leads the nation at his position with 8. In one of the biggest wins in recent memory for the program, the Bulldogs knocked off #13 UCLA, picked by many to win the PAC-12 after a fast start of their own.

The last time we saw them on the field, they let UNLV hang around, ultimately winning (38-30) but failing to cover the 30-point spread.

For the Rainbow Warriors, an opening game whooping from UCLA (10-44) set the tone for what has been a lackluster start to the season as they sit just 2-3 as conference play now begins. Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro has been solid, throwing for 1400 yards on the season, but his touchdown to interception ratio of 7:6 paints the picture for this offense that has struggled to find consistency.

They do come into this one off their biggest win of the season, a 41-21 win over New Mexico State last week as the anchor of their defense, linebacker Darius Muasau, had his best game of the year with 11 tackles and two sacks.

Trends

  • The underdog is 6-2 in L8 Hawaii vs. Fresno games
  • The under is 11-3 in Fresno’s L14 as away favorite

Bottom Line

Going for their 7th straight win on the Islands, Fresno State is more than capable of making the flight west and handling business against a now reeling Hawaii team. Coming in off a lackluster performance against one of the worst teams in the country in UNLV, I think the Bulldogs are discounted at the number they sit at now and should run away with this one facing a one-dimensional Todd Graham defense who let FCS Portland State put up 35 just a few weeks ago.

Pick: Fresno State -10
