Texas Rangers @ Atlanta Braves
This is a fascinating series between the defending World Series champions Texas Rangers and the Atlanta Braves, who unanimously had either the best or the second-best preseason odds to win the title this year. Texas is getting healthier with Justin Verlander's much-anticipated debut yesterday, while it faces a somewhat compromised Braves lineup, which is missing Ozzie Albies (out with a fractured big toe). Albies' absence should not be understated, as he was batting .317 and is second on the team with 14 RBIs. In addition, Ronald Acuna Jr. has not yet shown his MVP caliber just yet, as he is striking out one every four at-bats (25%).
We expect Andrew Heaney to give the Rangers a great chance to take this series opener, especially since Texas has been kind to moneyline bettors, going 27-12 in its last 39 games entering Thursday (+14.10 units, 29% ROI).
Pick: Rangers Moneyline (+158)

Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat
It was a rough second half in the 7-seed game for the Heat. The defense was unable to adjust and the 76ers got hot in the fourth quarter, especially Joel Embiid, and now they are one loss away from their first lottery pick since 2019. The biggest question is, how will the Heat do without Jimmy Butler? He went out against Philadelphia with an MCL sprain, and now he'll miss tonight. Butler is a key player in a sub-par offense, as the team has a +2.0 net rating when he's on the court and -5.5 when he's off.
The Bulls took advantage of an Atlanta team that plays no defense, and thanks to Coby White's career-high 42 points, they dropped 131 points in the win. They also have an injury problem, as Alex Caruso is doubtful for this game after suffering a left ankle injury. This slightly diminishes the impact of Butler's injury, which will certainly help Tyler Herro.
The loss of Butler hurts, but they'll have Bam Adebayo in the front court, and Duncan Robinson should also be back in the lineup. The Heat should grab the win at home.
Pick: Heat -1.5 (-112)
