NFL Best Bets

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Commanders

The Eagles have recently dominated this NFC East rivalry, winning five of the last six against the Commanders. The defending NFC champions have posted 23 points or more in all but one game this season. Now they face a Washington defense that just surrendered 34 points to them in Week 4. A.J. Brown has been one of the hottest receivers in the NFL, posting at least 130 yards in each of his last five games. Expect that to continue against Washington's 29th-ranked defense.

Can the Commanders put up enough points to push this total over the number? The key will be protecting Sam Howell. Washington is on pace to break the NFL record for sacks allowed. Howell hit the turf with the ball six times last week in a 14-7 loss to the Giants and has been sacked 40 times already this season. If the second-year quarterback can get some time, the Commanders should be able to put up some points. If the game gets out of hand, they're also entirely capable of putting up some garbage time points. Back the over here.

The Pick: Over 43.5 (-105)

#20 Duke Blue Devils @ #18 Louisville Cardinals

  • Leg 1: Louisville -4.5 (-105)
  • Leg 2: Jake Plummer Under 237.5 Passing Yards (-114)
  • Leg 3: Jake Plummer Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-118)

Duke went on the road against Florida State, and it took their second loss of the season. Riley Leonard was abysmal, throwing for just 67 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter when he re-aggravated the high ankle sprain. Louisville also took their first loss in a shocking upset by Pitt. Jake Plummer played well in the first half, but the Cardinals offense was terrible in the second, with two interceptions (including a pick-six), four possessions that were lost on downs and zero points. Duke has been great defensively other than last week, and Louisville can take away the run game. Louisville is a great play in this game regardless of if Leonard suits up, and getting this at under a touchdown is great.

Duke will need their defense to step up if they don't want to suffer back-to-back losses. Even after allowing 268 passing yards to Jordan Travis, the Blue Devils remain 16th in passing yards allowed per game. Jack Plummer has only faced one passing defense better than Duke, and that was Notre Dame, where he threw a season-low 145 yards.

It's shocking to see Plummer's passing touchdown totals set evenly. He's only thrown for multiple touchdowns in two games this season. Duke has been great at preventing the touchdown through the air, as their five passing touchdowns allowed is the third-lowest in the country.

Parlay Total: +577

NBA Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Miami Heat @ Boston Celtics

ESPN hosts their first Friday night double-header, starting with a rematch of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics are looking for big things out of the newly acquired Kristaps Porzingis, who went off for 30 points in his Boston debut on Wednesday night. I'm also targeting him for another strong start with a First Basket on Friday night.

Porzingis was one of the top First-Basket scorers in the NBA last season while playing for the Wizards. The Latvian forward joining the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown would seemingly lower his value on the prop, but I think he will still be targeted quite a bit. Porzingis was brought in to take offensive load off of Tatum and Brown, which he's more than capable of doing.

I love him in this matchup because Miami gave up 25% of their opposing first baskets to centers. Although Porzingis isn't a typical center, he plays a similar role on this roster. He's a great play for the First Basket.

Pick: Kristaps Porzingis (+500)

NHL Best Bets

Los Angeles Kings @ Arizona Coyotes

We are going to target another Under as the Coyotes host the Kings. These two clubs just squared off on Tuesday, as Los Angeles won 6-3. Although I think regression is coming this time around in the scoring department.

Adjusting for flurry, score and venue, there were only 4.38 cumulative expected goals in that outing. We should expect a much stronger performance from Karel Vejmelka, who owns a .942 SV% and 1.85 GAA for the Yotes this season.

Meanwhile, Cam Talbot starting over Pheonix Copley for Los Angeles should also be an improvement. Arizona ranks 26th in the league in xGF/60 at 5-on-5, which may present a lot of trouble against a Los Angeles blue line that currently ranks first in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60) at 5-on-5.

Bet: Under 6.0 (+112)
