How to Make UFC Exotic Bets at a Sportsbook

Before we can explain how to use exotic betting in the UFC, we have to understand what exotic betting is exactly. Exotic betting is a wager not tied to the usual ways of betting, such as money lines, spreads and parlays. So there is not an exact standard that exotic betting has to meet, which you can tell because it is used in sports anywhere from mixed martial arts to horse racing, but they make for some very nice odds more often than not.

Exotic markets feel like you are watching with your buddies and making fun bets on what’s going to happen, and I can just hear one of my friends walking in and saying, “He is going to knock him out cold. I’d put money on it.” Well, now you can!

How to Apply This to the UFC

We will look at UFC 276 coming up tomorrow, specifically the main event where Israel Adesanya is heavily favored over Jared Cannonier. Adesanya is the middleweight champion and comes in at -450 (via DraftKings). Jared Cannonier is the second-ranked challenger in this division, so he is no slouch, but beating Adesanya is not an easy task, and the books think he will be victorious. But what if you don’t want to pay -450? How can you get in on the action?

More Favorable Odds, More Ways to Win

This is where exotic markets come into play. The odds are much more favorable, but, in turn, the bets are more specific. For example, Israel Adesanya is -450 to retain his championship belt. However, for him to win by decision (meaning the fight lasts five rounds, and Adesanya is determined to be the winner) is +110. They also have bets that have nothing to do with who wins but rather the method of victory. What this means is regardless of the winner, your bet is determined on if the winner wins by decision (-110), KO/TKO/DQ (+100), submission (+1000) or even if it ends in a draw (+5000).

Having exotic markets available for betting creates chances to wager that don’t require you to stay within the walls of what sports betting used to be and allows you to get creative. This is so good for the UFC because if you aren’t technical with your knowledge of the sport, watching the fighters get strategic when there isn’t action could get a bit boring. Also, creating these markets allows the sportsbooks to have more money come in on different things and to try and cut their losses. It also increases intrigue in the sport because people tend to trend toward people who are successful in the markets that they are played, and true fandom and understanding come from that.
