What are Team Futures?

Futures refers to any team-based wager for a future event or a result. These bets often do not pay out until weeks or even months from when they are initially placed. Bets for win totals and the Super Bowl winner are good examples of team futures bets.

At +2200, it may be tempting to put down a small future bet on the Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl, but it would be a long shot, to say the least.

In a conference with Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson, the addition of Matt Ryan doesn't feel as significant as it might have in prior years. While I expect an improvement by the Colts this year, the Super Bowl may be a bit out of reach.

The conference odds of +1200 are an even worse bet than the Super Bowl bet for the Colts. If you think they can win the AFC, you might as well take the extra +1000 for one more win against whoever makes it out of the NFC.

The Conference Winner bet is a stay away for me.

The Indianapolis Colts division winner bet is one I can support. You would like to see slightly better odds than -115, but it's still a bet for me.

In Jacksonville, a step forward from Trevor Lawrence should be expected now that Doug Pederson is calling the shots after the Urban Meyer catastrophe. Only a step forward should be expected, not a giant leap from last place in the league to the division winner.

The Texans appear to be rebuilding with new coach Lovie Smith taking over for the time being while they continue to draft early and add talent to their roster.

The Tennessee Titans under Mike Vrabel always seem competitive, but this year may be different. After an abysmal playoff performance by Ryan Tannehill, the offseason didn't go much better for the quarterback. The Titans traded away A.J. Brown, have not re-signed Julio Jones and may have drafted Tannehill's eventual replacement in Malik Willis. After Willis was drafted, Tannehill commented that it was not his job to mentor the young quarterback. This doesn't project team cohesion in Tennessee.

The Colts winning the AFC South seems very possible, so I will be leaning hard toward betting on the Division Winner.

The AFC is loaded this year, so the Indianapolis Colts win totals over/under of 9.5 is a stay away for me. The Colts should stack up some wins in their divisional games, but they have to battle through the AFC West, an already strong division, before adding Russell Wilson, Khalil Mack, Davante Adams and countless other big offseason splashes.

At -182 to make the playoffs, I am leaning away from this bet. I think the Colts’ path to the playoffs is through the division, and those odds are -115. I don't expect to see two AFC South teams make the playoffs because of the way the AFC is stacked up.

Favorite Indianapolis Colts Futures Bet

AFC South Winners (-115)

My favorite Indianapolis Colts futures bet is for the Colts to win the division with odds of -115. The upgrade from Carson Wentz to Ryan combined with a rough offseason for the Titans makes me confident that the Colts will be crowned the AFC South champions this year.
