Unlike other women’s players who participated in multiple tune-up tournaments leading up to Wimbledon, Pegula has only played three matches (at Eastbourne) since her Round of 32 loss at the French Open. Pegula has been seemingly non-competitive in her last two losses to Elise Mertens and Coco Gauff, losing each in straight sets and failing to win more than three games in any of the four. Pegula has improved her results in each of the last two Wimbledons, but is still just 3-3 with a third-round loss last year being her best result.

Pegula is still ranked No. 4 in the world (her previous career-high was No. 3), but she has not beaten enough quality opponents consistently or even looked competitive enough against the world’s best of late to warrant serious consideration in this tournament.
