Kent State Golden Flashes vs. Texas A&M Aggies Odds & Game Pick (2021)

We have a full slate of college football ahead of us in Week 1 of the season.

Kent State and Texas A&M will play in the evening slot of 7 p.m. ET. Texas A&M will host at Kyle Field in College Station, TX. The weather should be cooperative, and the temperature should cool off from a 90-degree high in the afternoon.

Ranked sixth in the preseason AP poll, it's no surprise that Texas A&M is a substantial favorite in this game. The Aggies have a decided talent advantage, but they shouldn't underestimate their opponent here. Kent State has Dustin Crum at the helm, and he is an experienced quarterback who can generate yardage on the ground and through the air. He could keep the Golden Flashes in this game, but Kent State’s defense will need to step up to make that a reality.

Let's cover all the betting angles of this Saturday evening showdown.

Overview

The Texas A&M Aggies are loaded. They finished the 2020 season strong by rattling off five straight wins. Expectations are high in College Station, as the Aggies are flirting with a top-five ranking in the AP poll. The biggest question mark comes at quarterback, where Haynes King will replace long-tenured signal-caller Kellen Mond. However, the Aggies are solid across the board, which will make King's transition much smoother, especially in the early going.

Kent State is the epitome of MACtion. They have a fast-paced offense that can put up a lot of points. Quarterback Dustin Crum leads the way on the ground and through the air. However, their defense is lackluster, and they surrender plenty of points. In fact, the Golden Flashes yielded 6.2 yards per carry to opposing rushers last season. That's nearly dead last in the entire country. How are they going to slow down this first-rate rushing attack of Texas A&M?

Trends

  • The total has gone over in three of Kent State’s last four games.
  • Texas A&M won the last five games of the season in 2020.
  • Texas A&M was 1-3 ATS at home last season.

Bottom Line

Expect Texas A&M to run at will against Kent State. Isaiah Spiller should be able to break off several highlight runs to get things going. On the other side of the ball, Kent State will try to speed things up, which will either lead to points in their favor or to turnovers.

Either way, this game seems to be heading over the total. The hope is that Texas A&M can score early on the ground, and Kent State will pepper in some points in garbage time. Dustin Crum is a capable enough quarterback to hold up his end of the bargain. Kent State’s defense is generous enough to help us out, too. As a result, I’ll take the over.

The Pick: OVER 67.5
