La Liga Matchday 28 Odds, Picks & Predictions (2023)
This weekâs Matchday 28 is the next step in Barcelonaâs quest for the La Liga championship in 2022-23, as they close in on getting it done even earlier than usual. Regardless of what transpires before the weekendâs last game (on Monday), Barca will still be in a commanding lead over the other teams. With a 12-point lead over Real Madrid in second place going into the weekend, the Catalans will have plenty of time to relax and observe the other matches before playing Girona who comes into this one in 11th place.
Letâs take a closer look at the two matches Iâm on elsewhere on the table.

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Real Madrid vs. Villarreal
On Sunday, Real Madrid destroyed Valladolid 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Karim Benzema in the first half. After losing to Barcelona right before the March international break, the outcome was a comeback triumph. Real still has a lot to play for this season, and they will play Villarreal on Saturday after playing on Wednesday in the second leg of the Cup del Rey Semifinal.
Next Wednesdayâs Champions League match against Chelsea will make it interesting to observe whether Carlo Ancelotti rotates his lineup in this one. Regardless of the other competitions, Los Blancos must start to catch up to Barcelona as there are just 11 La Liga games left.
Real must continue to perform at its highest level possible in order for it to occur. On Saturday, theyâll also be up against difficult opposition in Villarreal, who havenât lost in La Liga play in five games. Last Sundayâs 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad by the visitors was a huge boost to their chances of finishing in the top four. Currently, fourth-placed Sociedad is only four points ahead of sixth-place Villarreal.
In a match I have much closer to even, Iâll take the dog here.
Pick: Villareal (+440)
Real Betis vs. Cadiz
Real Betis vs. Cadiz is an important matchup, despite what would initially appear to be the case. Three points separate Betis, who are currently in fifth position, and a Champions League spot. Cadiz, however, is only one point clear of the relegation zone. Both of these circumstances make a win on Sunday a move of significant progress toward their objectives. Both teams suffered defeats on Matchday 27, which should undoubtedly add to their drive.
For the past couple of weeks, Betis have been quite tough to score on. Despite the fact that they fell to Atletico Madrid 1-0 on Sunday, they have allowed 0.8 goals per contest during their previous five games. That should be the difference in this one.
Pick: Real Betis (-170)
