Masters 2023: Rory McIlroy Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions
It's Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season â at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.
The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place â a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.
Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.
As if the world's greatest golfers taking on arguably the world's greatest course wasn't enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week's field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we'll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.
Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We're going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We'll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We'll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Rory McIlroy Course History
Rory McIlroy has to be one of the most decorated players to ever step foot at Augusta National without winning the Green Jacket. The 33-year-old from Northern Ireland has logged seven T10 finishes at The Masters since 2014, bouncing back from his first-ever missed cut in 2021 with a second-place runner-up finish (-7) behind only Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy is dialed in this season, which is why his outright winner odds are so high at 7/1 on most sportsbooks.
Rory McIlroy Recent Form
McIlroy spent some time on the European DP World Tour but he has already collected an outright win at The CJ Cup in South Carolina back in late October during his first PGA Tour event of the 2022-23 season. Since that outright win, McIlroy has looked strong, missing the cut only once during The Players Championship, while logging a T2 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a third-place finish after losing to Cameron Young in the WGC Match Play Semi-Finals. McIlroy is ranked first in driving distance and going for the green while ranking eighth in total strokes gained, which speaks volumes about how good he is with his irons.
Rory McIlroy Betting Outlook
It's a loaded field at The Masters but we've seen McIlroy consistently log T10 finishes since finally breaking through back in 2014. The odds are short on McIlroy for him never securing an outright win at Augusta National GC, but this seemingly adds fuel to his competitive fire. In 2022, McIlroy went +1 across the first three rounds before catching fire and blazing the field with an absurdly low -8-under-par final-round score. It may seem like there isn't much value on McIlroy at the moment with 7/1 outright winner odds, but this number could dry up and quickly turn into minus odds with a strong opening round, so I'd recommend adding a unit or two onto McIlroy at +750 on BetMGM.
Pick: Rory McIlroy Outright Winner (+750 at BetMGM)
