Max Homa 2023 British Open Odds, Picks & Predictions
Itâs homecoming week for Rory McIlroy at the British Open.
Well, not exactly. McIlroy is a native of Northern Ireland and currently resides in Jupiter, Florida. This year's British Open (or "Open Championship," if you're a purist) is being held at Royal Liverpool (aka "Hoylake") in Wirral, England.
But McIlroy hoisted the Claret Jug the last time the Open was held at Royal Liverpool, besting Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia by two shots in 2014, and he returns nine years later as the betting favorite.
Who could have imagined that Rory would go nine years without winning a major? He won both the Open and the PGA Championship in 2014 â his third and fourth major championships. He was only 25 at the time.
Can Rory end the majors drought at a course where he's tasted victory before? It won't be easy, as world No. 1-ranked player Scottie Scheffler, 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm and 2023 PGA champ Brooks Koepka all have designs on the Jug.
Fans of true links golf and the creative shotmaking it requires should be excited about the Open Championship's return to Hoylake. The course will be firm and fast, and we'll see a lot of players landing their approach shots in front of the green and bouncing the ball onto the putting surface.
McIlroy posted a winning score of -17 in 2014. Tiger Woods finished at -18 when he won the Open at Hoylake in 2006. But if the wind howls, we could easily see a winning score in the neighborhood of -7 or -8.
The British Open champion is granted the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. Let's take a closer look at some of the players vying for that honor.

Max Homa 2023 British Open Betting Outlook
We haven't seen any golfer win The Open Championship more than once since Padraig Harrington during his 2007-2008 back-to-back outright win campaign. This creates a good opportunity for Max Homa, who is competing in his third Open Championship. The results have been poor. He missed the cut at St. Andrews in 2022 and logged a T40 finish at Royal St. George's in 2021. However, Homa has two outright wins this year, with eight T10 finishes, plus he had an opportunity to compete at Genesis until going +2 in the final round. His putter is an asset, not a weakness, paired with precise irons, which is always a good mix.
Max Homa 2023 British Open Betting Advice
I like betting on Homa's 60/1 outright odds at BetRivers. He could replicate Shane Lowry's performances at The Open, missing the cut and then bouncing back with an outright win for his first major at Royal Liverpool.
