MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (7/6)
Summer is officially here, and the MLB landscape is heating up. Let's look at interesting matchups for tonight.
Thursday's Best MLB Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Chicago Cubs (-105) at Milwaukee Brewers (-115) | O/U 8 (+100/-120)
After dropping the first game, it's been all Cubs, as they won the last two. They need this take this series against divisional opponents, and they have done so recently with two sweeps of the Pirates. Are we going to see the Marcus Stroman that has allowed eight earned in his last two starts or the one who went six scoreless against the Brewers in his first start of the year?
It's not a good time for Milwaukee to drop games against under .500 teams. They looked great coming into this series, winning six of eight, but the bullpen has given up runs late and lost the last two games. We are now into Week 6 without a win for Freddy Peralta. In those seven starts, he has multiple walks in five and allowed nine home runs.
Stroman may not need to be great with Peralta's struggles and overall pitching from the Brew Crew.
Pick: Cubs Moneyline (-105)
Pittsburgh Pirates (+195) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-230) | O/U 9 (-110/-110)
The feel-good story of the Pirates earlier in the season is going down with the ship. After starting the season 20-9 lead the NL Central, they have been 18-37 since as they sit in third. Johan Ovideo is another guy who doesn't have a win in a month and a half. Some of it is his own doing, but Pittsburgh has scored two or fewer runs in six of his last eight starts.
The Dodgers have not fallen that hard, but they are not replicating the dominance that allowed them to run away with the division last year. Since June 2nd, they are 13-15 and went from 0.5 games in first to 1.5 games behind. A pitcher who has also not experienced the same dominance is Julio Urias. He has struggled all season and hasn't made it out of the third inning in his last two starts.
Offense has been the theme of this, and two struggling pitchers should keep it going.
Pick: Over 9 (-110)
St. Louis Cardinals (+195) at Miami Marlins (-230) | O/U 8.5 (-105/-115)
The Marlins won in a highly dramatic fashion thanks to a walk-off two-run throwing error by the Cardinals. The offense has been out in force for Miami, as they've put up 30 runs in this series. They'll have the rookie sensation Eury Perez on the mound after he experienced his first shelving against Atlanta recording only one out and allowing six earned.
St. Louis could not use the momentum from the series win against the Yankees as they were on the verge of getting swept. The pitching continues to be the team's undoing, and they're 26th in ERA and last in opponent's BABIP. Jack Flaherty has had trouble with inconsistencies all season, but especially recently with two starts where he allowed six earned sandwiched in between two starts where he went six scoreless.
The Marlins are one of the top teams in BABIP, and the Cardinals are another great offense that Perez could struggle against.
Pick: Over 8.5 (-105)
