MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/14)

We have less than a month left in the regular season. With a lot of teams still in contention, it’ll be a fun few weeks. Let’s look at some important matchups with teams that need wins to stay in the race.

      Thursday’s Best MLB Bets

      Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

      San Francisco Giants (-258) at Colorado Rockies (+210) | O/U 10.5 (+100/-120)

The last few starts have not worked out well for Logan Webb. At times, he’s been able to pitch phenomenally but has lacked run support, and in others he’s just been inefficient. The Giants are just 1-4 in his last five starts, but that one win was last week against Colorado. He’s 2-0 in three starts against the Rockies, which includes a complete game shutout.

On the other side, it’s been a rough year for Chase Anderson. It’s been filled with awful starts, including his last one against the Giants where he only went 3.2 innings and allowed six earned.

The Giants need wins as they’re in a tight National League race, this is an excellent opportunity to get one.

      Pick: Giants (-155)

      Texas Rangers (+130) at Toronto Blue Jays (+210) | O/U 8 (-110/-110)

The Rangers needed to start winning games in the close American League playoff race, and they are now on the verge of a four-game sweep in Toronto. Nathan Eovaldi has to step up in a rotation that lost another big piece in Max Scherzer. He’s been eased back in since his return from the IL, but hopefully he can go longer in his third start back.

Kevin Gausman has been the Jays’ best pitcher, leading the rotation in ERA, WHIP, and WAR. His fastball is sharp, but his split-finger has been a drop off the table pitch with a 42.4 whiff rate, and that’s a reason his strikeout rate is above 30% for the first time in his career.

This has been a high-scoring series so far. Eovaldi has allowed a lifetime .304 batting average to this lineup, and Gausman is .280. That high-scoring trend continues.

      Pick: Over 8 (-110)

      Tampa Bay Rays (+120) at Baltimore Orioles (-142) | O/U 8.5 (-115/-105)

Aaron Civale has been an excellent pickup for the Rays, as Tampa Bay is 5-2 in his starts and he has gone five innings or more, allowing three or fewer earned in five of those. Although he hasn’t seen much of this offense, they hit him pretty well and have a lifetime average of .342.

Kyle Bradish is having a much better sophomore season for the Orioles. The main reason for this improvement is better control of his pitches, and he’s giving up one walk fewer per game than last year.

Bradish doesn’t have the best past against the Rays with a .298 average, and each has an under-20% strikeout rate. More contact could mean more runs.

      Pick: Over 8.5 (-115)
