MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/28)

We are in the final weekend of the regular season, and there are still playoff spots up for grabs. Let’s look at some of the most important matchups going on tonight.

Thursday’s Best MLB Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

New York Yankees (+150) at Toronto Blue Jays (-180) | O/U 9 (-120/+100)

Toronto is barely holding onto the second Wild Card spot, and the back-to-back losses have not helped. Chris Bassitt can set a new career-high if he gets his 16th win. He’s been on an excellent run to end the season, and what the Jays love is that he eats up innings. In three of his last five starts, he’s gone seven innings or better, allowing two or fewer runs, and has nine of those outings this year.

It’s been a tough year for Luke Weaver; he’s been DFA’d twice in just over a month, and the Yankees are his third team of the year. He’s been good for New York, allowing three earned runs in 9.1 innings, and got his first win in over two months in his last start.

He won’t fare as well against Toronto, who need to end the season strong, or else they could miss out on the playoffs.

Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 (+114)

Texas Rangers (+102) at Seattle Mariners (-122) | O/U 7.5 (-110/-110)

This is an important final series for both teams. Seattle’s only shot at the playoffs is through the Wild Card, and they need help from other teams. After the Mariners couldn’t lose with Logan Gilbert on the mound, now they can’t win. Seattle has lost four of their last five games with Gilbert starting, including one against the Rangers, after winning nine of the previous ten.

On the other side of that loss against Texas was Jordan Montgomery. The Rangers have been piecing together a rotation all season due to injuries, and Monty has done well since coming over from the Cardinals with a 2.92 ERA in 10 starts.

Texas has controlled this series, winning eight of nine, and I like that trend to continue.

Pick: Rangers Moneyline (+102)

Boston Red Sox (+100) at Baltimore Orioles (-118) | O/U 9 (-120/+100)

The Orioles are in the playoffs, but they have bigger goals of winning the AL East. Dean Kremer has been roughed up in some recent starts, but he’s backed by an incredible offense, and the Orioles are 12-2 in his last 14 starts.

We weren’t sure if Chris Sale would return this year after a shoulder injury landed him on the 60-day IL for the second straight season, but he did and tried to help the Red Sox make a playoff push. Neither scenario has worked out, and Sale hasn’t done well against good competition; Boston is just 1-3 when Sale starts against a team above .500.

One of those recent starts against the Orioles, where he allowed seven runs (six earned) in a loss.

Pick: Orioles Moneyline (-118)
