MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/7)

We have less than a month left in the regular season. With a lot of teams still in contention, it'll be a fun few weeks. Let's look at some important matchups with teams that need wins to stay in the race.

Thursday's Best MLB Bets

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

St. Louis Cardinals (+240) at Atlanta Braves (-298) | O/U 10.5 (-105/-115)

The Braves became the first team this season to lose a game when they had a -350 or better moneyline (previous teams were 5-0). The Braves will want to avoid the surprising sweep at the hands of the last-place Cardinals. Max Fried will try to stop the bleeding, and he's been stellar since returning from the IL in August, going 4-0 with a 2.86 ERA and opposing hitters having a .673 OPS.

Adam Wainwright's swan song could not be going any worse. The future Hall of Famer will have the worst ERA of his career and the fewest wins in a year with at least 15 starts. The big problem for him is the curveball that has been one of the best in the league for almost two decades has not been effective, and batters have a .453 slugging against the pitched compared to .353 last year.

The buck stops here, and the Braves will salvage the final game.

Pick: Braves -1.5 (-148)

Detroit Tigers (+140) at  New York Yankees (-166) | O/U 8.5 (-108/-112)

It has not been a great debut year in the Bronx for Carlos Rodon. Multiple IL stints and ineffectiveness have plagued him all season, but he might be turning it around. Over his last three starts, he has a 2.87 ERA and pitched well against Houston and Tampa Bay.

Eduardo Rodriguez is having one of the best seasons of his career. He's been able to get better movement on all of his pitches this season, and for the first time, he has a positive run value on all of his pitches.

Today is a day to trust the pitching and go for the under.

Pick: Under 8.5 Total Runs (-112)

Seattle Mariners (-130) at  Tampa Bay Rays (+110) | O/U 8 (-110/-110)

Luis Castillo has been helping the Mariners get back into playoff contention as the team has won his last seven starts while he has a 3.86 ERA in that stretch. He saw the Rays back in July, and although it wasn't a memorable performance (6 IP, 6 runs), Seattle was able to give him the run support for the win.

After spending most of the season in the bullpen, Zack Little moved into the rotation in late July. He hasn't personally been great with a 4.42 ERA, but he doesn't walk many batters, and the Rays are 4-3 in those seven starts.

Seattle continues to hit well with third-best BABIP (.324) and sixth-best wOBA (.364) since August 23rd, and they can give Castillo plenty of support to win this game.

Pick: Mariners Moneyline (-130)
