MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (8/29)
The trade deadline is over, and we saw some blockbusters happen. We now have less than two months left in the season, so we're mainly interested in seeing which teams stay competitive.
Let's dive into my top MLB picks for Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Tuesday's Best MLB Bets
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Houston Astros (+102) at Boston Red Sox (+120) | O/U 10 (-110/-110)
We have a rematch from five days ago, as these two clashed in their last starts.
J.P. France was smashed hard by the Boston bats and lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing 10 earned in the 17-1 beat down. France had location problems throughout that start, he was missing the corners with the fastball and continually had trouble keeping his changeup at the bottom of the strike zone.
Brayan Bello put together a brilliant start, going seven innings, allowing one earned. He gave up nine hits, but you're throwing over the plate to induce contact when you have an extensive lead like that.
I don't expect the game to end up like that, but I'm anticipating a high score, which has been the theme of these matchups all season.
Pick: Over 10 (-110)
Tampa Bay Rays (-104) at Miami Marlins (-112) | O/U 7.5 (-108/-112)
Aaron Civale was a surprising name to change teams, getting traded from the Guardians to the Rays. He's been a great addition to an already stacked Tampa Bay rotation with a 3.54 ERA, and the team is 3-1 in his starts.
The reigning National League Cy Young winner, Sandy Alcantara, will not receive the award in back-to-back years. He's been inconsistent throughout the season and is currently 6-11 with a 4.16 ERA. The big thing to be aware of is that he's looked better over his last six starts, going 3-2 with a 2.62 ERA and two complete games. One of them was against Tampa Bay.
Another game where I like the total, but this time going with the under.
Pick: Under 7.5 (-112)
Milwaukee Brewers (+116) at Chicago Cubs (-136) | O/U 7 (-115/-105)
It has been a breakout season for Justin Steele. He's coming in with a major league-leading .824 winning percentage, thanks to the improvement of his slider, which makes his fastball more difficult for the batter to read. He's been especially great at home with a 2.65 ERA, and the Cubs have won 11 of his last 12, one of which includes against the Brewers.
Corbin Burnes has been inconsistent for most of the season. He started off July winning four straight starts, but August hasnât been great, with a 4.74 ERA in four starts.
The Brewers are 3-1 in those starts, but theyâve needed to give Burnes a lot of run support. With them having the seventh-worst batting average against lefties, they wonât get it done.
Pick: Cubs Moneyline (-136)
