MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (8/8)

The trade deadline is over, and we saw some blockbusters happen. We now have less than two months left in the season, so we're mainly interested in seeing which teams stay competitive.

Let’s dive into my top MLB picks for Tuesday.

Tuesday's Best MLB Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

St. Louis Cardinals (+144) at Tampa Bay Rays (-172) | O/U 8 (-115/-105)

It has not been a great few weeks for the Rays, who are 11-18 over their last 29 games and lost their lead in the American League East. Zach Eflin is a whole new pitcher in Tampa Bay after having a 4.49 ERA in seven seasons with the Phillies. He's made some positive adjustments by mixing his pitches, increasing the use of his curveball and cutter, and his sinker has gotten better with more movement.

Miles Mikolas has two All-Star seasons, but in each of the following seasons, he finished with a 4.00+ ERA. He was an All-Star in 2022 and currently has a 4.29 ERA. He's coming off a quality start against the Twins but has only been able to follow it up with another once this season.

Two excellent offenses here, and although Mikolas been better on the road, Eflin has been better at home going 10-2 with a 2.61 ERA at the Trop.

Pick: Rays -1.5 (+128)

New York Yankees (-154) at Chicago White Sox (+130) | O/U 9 (-115/-105)

Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt have been the most consistent starters in a Yankees rotation filled with injuries and inconsistencies. Schmidt been stellar over the last two months after a rough start to the year, and in his 14 appearances (13 starts), he's 6-2 with a 3.23 ERA.

Touki Toussaint will get his third consecutive start for the first time this season after fluctuating in the rotation and bullpen. He's changed his approach this year by making the curveball his lead pitch, and he's done well with it, especially in Chicago with a 3.82 ERA.

The Yankees need this game, and although the lineup is struggling, the pitching matchup heavily swings in their favorite to pickup a win.

Pick: Yankees Moneyline (-154)

Kansas City Royals (-154) at Boston Red Sox (+130) | O/U 10 (-110/-110)

Brady Singer had a breakout season in 2022, and many thought he was ready to lead this rotation but were seeing some of the same issues that had him struggling in previous years. He is pitching much recently and has allowed under three earned in three straight starts for the first time this season.

Consistency has been the problem for Kutter Crawford this season. His ERA has continually shifted from three to four, and his last two starts are the first time it's remained below four since June 3rd and 7th. He's on a great stretch at the moment with a 2.18 ERA and opposing hitters having a .525 OPS.

The run total is very high, and the odds look like Vegas analyzed this matchup on paper. Both pitchers have been solid recently, and with the run total at even odds, I’m snagging the under.

Pick: Under 10 (-110)
