MLB Best Bets, Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (9/5)

We have just one more month of the regular season. With a lot of teams still in contention, it'll be a fun few weeks. Let's look at some important matchups with teams that need wins to stay in the race.

Tuesday's Best MLB Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Boston Red Sox (+136) at Tampa Bay Rays (-162) | O/U 8 (-115/-105)

Kutter Crawford is hoping to rebound after his worst start since returning to the rotation in June, allowing six earned against Houston. He has an exceptional fastball with some of the best movement in the league, and batters are hitting just .183 off it this year.

Zach Eflin is a whole new pitcher in Tampa Bay after having a 4.49 ERA in seven seasons with the Phillies. He's made some positive adjustments by mixing his pitches and increasing the use of his curveball and cutter, and his sinker has gotten better with more movement.

Last night we saw an offensive showing from the Red Sox as they won the first game of this series, but I think a much tighter game, and I like the under.

Pick: Under 8 (-105)

Detroit Tigers (+190) at New York Yankees (-230) | O/U 8.5 (-108/-112)

The Tigers are fresh on Gerrit Cole's mind as he faced them in Detroit in his last start. It was another excellent performance as he went six innings and allowed two earned in the win. He already has a sizable lead in odds to win the American League Cy Young race, and with a season coming to a close, a couple of more solid performances could clinch the award.

It's been a turbulent year for Alex Faedo. He's missed time with an injury and has been optioned and recalled multiple times. He'll try to adjust as he pitched just three days ago, going one inning against the White Sox.

Cole will continue his award-winning run as he gets the Yankees another win coming off the sweep of the Astros.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-110)

Chicago White Sox (-102) at Kansas City Royals (-118) | O/U 9.5 (+100/-120)

After an impressive in 2022, where he was in the Cy Young contention, it's been a highly disappointing year for Dylan Cease. He had a scoreless stretch of 18 innings last year, but this season, he has just two starts where he pitched more than five scoreless innings. He'll try to rebound in September after an 8.07 ERA in six starts in August.

Brady Singer is another one who had a great 2022 season but could not replicate it in 2023. Last year, he had a career-best 3.23 ERA, 4.5 WAR, and a 4.3 strikeout/walk ratio. August started well but finished terribly and allowed eight earned (ten runs) in his last 7.2 innings.

Pick:  Over 9.5 (+100)
