MLB Best Bets, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (4/29)
It's non-stop action on the diamond today, as we gear up for a behemoth 17-game slate across the league. The pair of extra games is due to rainouts yesterday. We'll get two doubleheaders between the Orioles and Tigers and the Pirates and Nationals.
Below, I detail my top three bets for today's MLB action.
MLB YTD: 23-26 (+16.84 Units)

Seattle Mariners (+190) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (-230) | O/U 9.0 (-102/-120)
It's been a rough start to the season for the Mariners who have now lost four of their last five games. They dropped last night's series opener 3-2 to the Blue Jays. The two American League sides are back at it today at 3:07 p.m. ET from Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON.
This pitching matchup features a duel between Chris Flexen for the M's and Kevin Gausman for the Jays. Flexen has been awful to start the year, coming in at 0-4 with an 8.86 ERA and 1.97 WHIP. As for Gausman, he's been a serviceable option at 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
All things considered, I'm locking in the over in this spot. Toronto's current roster is slashing .277/.347/.569 with five home runs and two doubles over 65 at-bats against Flexen. On the flip side, Seattle has great numbers against Gausman. Their slash line is .290/.388/.420 over 69 at-bats. Let's sit back and root for offense in this one - give me the over!
Bet: Over 9.0 Runs (-102)
Philadelphia Phillies (+108) vs. Houston Astros (-126) | O/U 7.5 (-106/-114)
The Phillies notched a 3-1 victory over the Astros in last night's series opener, which is a 2022 World Series rematch. Zack Wheeler gets the nod in game two while Houston counters with Cristian Javier. First pitch is slated for 5:10 p.m. ET from Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.
I'm riding with the Astros to get back in the win column this evening. After a slow start, they're finally putting things together as they've now won six of their last eight games. Javier has been exceptional this season, sitting at 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. Furthermore, he has great head-to-head numbers against Philadelphia as theyâre just 5-29 (.172) against him with one double.
Houston's bullpen is also shaping up nicely as they're currently ranked fifth in ERA (2.90) and fourth in WHIP (1.11). Philadelphia, on the other hand, is just 25th (4.65) and 26th (1.44) in those respective categories. The Astros are simply a better baseball team and I'll back them at home with Javier on the hill.
Bet: Houston Astros Moneyline (-126)
Tampa Bay Rays (-134) vs. Chicago White Sox (+114) | O/U 9.0 (-114/-106)
The White Sox's dreaded season continues, as they've now lost their last nine games and 11 of their last 12. Chicago will attempt to turn things around when they give Lance Lynn the ball tonight. The visiting Rays come back with Calvin Faucher in what will likely be a bullpen game. This American League showdown is set for 7:10 p.m. ET from Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, IL.
The over is the play in this game. Lynn has struggled severely this season as he's currently 0-3 with a 7.52 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. He'll be tasked with taking on the top-ranked offense in terms of runs scored (174), home runs (52), batting average (.279), and OPS (.862). Considering the way Tampa Bay is swinging the bats, this may be one of those games where they cover the over by themselves.
In addition to Lynn's horrific start, Chicago's bullpen is also ranked 29th in both ERA (6.00) and WHIP (1.68). Look for the Rays to put another beatdown on the Sox as this one sails over the total.
Bet: Over 9.0 Runs (-114)
