Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox will send out Dylan Cease for todayâs game against the Orioles. Cease is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA. Heâs also holding an xFIP of 3.37 with 34.8% of strikeouts.
Cease rarely gives up line drives and hasnât allowed many extra-base hits. Heâll take on a Baltimore lineup that has hit a .162 ISO and wOBA of .326 with an ISO of .195. Baltimore has power against righties and has shown it early on, but Cease has been almost unhittable to begin the year.
On the other hand, top prospect and rookie Grayson Rodriguez will get another big-league start for the Orioles. Heâs got a 6.75 ERA, but that doesnât tell the entire picture. Heâs holding an xFIP of 3.52 with 25.6% of strikeouts. The hard line-drive contact is hurting him a bit, but the White Sox are hitting over 45% of ground balls and have a .113 ISO with the projected lineup against righties.
Iâm on the Under.
Bet: Under 8 (-115)
New York Mets vs. Oakland Athletics
The New York Mets are playing chess against the Athletics. The Mets moved Max Scherzerâs start back to Wednesday and will pitch Jose Butto for todayâs game against the Athletics.
Maybe Scherzer does have legitimate discomfort. But this seems like the Mets want to give Jose Butto a chance in the big leagues again, and they want him to take on one of the worst teams in baseball.
Butto was awful in his first start for the Mets, but heâs been terrific in the minor leagues to start the season. Heâll face an Oakland lineup that has struck out nearly 25% of the time against righties.
Meanwhile, JP Sears will get the start for Athletics. Heâs a left-handed pitcher holding a 5.95 xFIP to begin the year. Sears has watched righties hit a .403 wOBA and ISO of .444 in 29 plate appearances.
The Mets should have seven righties in the lineup, including Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso, who have both crushed righties to begin the season.
The Mets are going to win around 100 games this year. The Athletics might not even earn 50 wins.
If Iâm getting the Mets -1.5 at +102, Iâm taking it.
Bet: Mets -1.5 (+102)
