MLB Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (4/11)

Tampa Bay won their 10th game of the season in 10 tries last night, a mark the “Devil Rays” didn’t reach until May 11 (Game 35) back in 2002. Can they make it 11 straight? It’s another full slate today, so let's look at some of the best plays of the day.

New York Yankees (-174) vs. Cleveland Guardians (+146) | O/U 8 (-122/+100)

In the first game since their ALDS series last year, the Guardians took the opener 3-2 thanks to a stellar pitching effort from ace Shane Bieber after going in a 2-0 hole after the 1st inning. The lineup has carried over the same philosophy from last season, that's to work the count to get on base, and they're 3rd in the Majors with an 11.2% walk rate.

The Yankees’ offense does it the opposite way. They will hit with power, take their big cuts, and if it results in strikeouts, then so be it. They can afford to do it because they’ll have the cushion of Gerrit Cole, who's been phenomenal so far. He led the league in strikeouts last year and his 19 through two starts are the second most this year.

He should help New York tie this series.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-102)

Boston Red Sox (+154) vs. Tampa Bay Rays (-184) | O/U 7.5 (+104/-128)

The Rays' tremendous start has brought their winning streak to ten games. They haven't played the toughest schedule, but they've dominated the season by leading the league in ERA, home runs, OPS, slugging, run differential, and fewest strikeouts.

They'll have Shane McCallahan take the mound and he's transitioned from last year's excellent season with two quality starts so far.

The Red Sox pitching staff had their best performance of the year, with Chris Martin making the only mistake in a Brandon Lowe home run. Unfortunately, the lineup could only scatter three hits throughout the game.

After starting the year on a rehab assignment, Garrett Whitlock will make his 2023 debut. He spent last season mostly in the bullpen but had a brief stretch as a starter, including one start against the Rays, going four scoreless innings.

I don't think we’ll get a total of one run but expect another low-scoring game.

Pick: Under 7.5 (-128)

Detroit Tigers (+235) vs. Toronto Blue Jays(-290) | O/U 8.5 (-118/-104)

After a ten-game road trip, the Blue Jays return home for their Opening Day. This lineup is lighting it up to start the season, and they come in first in the league in average and second in hits.

Alek Manoah had a rough first outing against St. Louis but was dominant in his last start, going seven scoreless and allowing just one hit against the Royals.

He'll face another AL Central team with a bad offense. The Tigers were near the bottom in almost every offensive category last year and that trend continues as they're in the bottom three in average, slugging, on-base percentage, and OPS.

Matt Manning pitched well for Detroit late last season and might be one of the few gems on this roster. He's not a swing-and-miss guy, but he's excellent at inducing the weak popup.

Manoah does not have to be great to shut down this lineup, but Manning does. The offensive numbers are so skewed toward Toronto that it will be tough for Detroit to keep pace.

Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 (-132)
