Isaac Paredes (+550)
It's never too early for meaningful baseball in the AL East. The Yankees enter the weekend in first place at 13-6, and they're gearing up to host a Rays squad that's 2.5 games off their first-place pace. Tyler Alexander takes the ball for Tampa Bay, while New York counters with Clarke Schmidt. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET From Yankees Stadium in Bronx, New York.
Schmidt has been a serviceable option for the Yankees so far this year, coming in at 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. However, the right-hander doesn't have the best track record against the Rays, as the current roster is slashing .302/.311/.535 against him over 43 at-bats. Included in there is Isaac Parades, who's 3-6 (.500) against Schmidt with a home run. The third baseman has already launched five home runs (ninth) this season, and with a +500 payout, I think it's worth a sprinkle on him to go yard tonight. Paredes is coming off a breakout season where he hit .250 and racked up 31 tanks. Let's lock him in to hit a bomb at the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium.
Marcus Semien (+500)
The champs are back in action after taking three of four games from the Tigers in their midweek series. The Rangersâ road trip continues as they make their way down to Atlanta to square off against the Braves. Texas will send Andrew Heaney to the bump, while Atlanta opts for Chris Sale in the series opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET from Truist Park in Atlanta.
Sale was sharp in the first two outings of his Atlanta tenure, but the veteran hurler got touched up for five earned runs against Miami last time out. The left-hander lasted 7.0 innings in the losing effort, and he's now 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 17.2 innings of work.
There should be no shortage of moonshots in this series. The Braves finished first in home runs last year (307), while the Rangers were right behind them in third with 233 homers. As for this year, the teams rank 13th (20) and 16th (18), respectively. Marcus Semien has contributed to Texas' count, launching three home runs (45th) through the first 20 games. The 33-year-old had a big day on Thursday, going 3-6 (.500) against the Tigers with a homer and a double. I think he stays hot and takes Sale deep tonight. Semien is 4-15 (.267) with a pair of bombs against the southpaw.
Willy Adames (+550)
Milwaukee hits the road this weekend, where they'll make a stop in St. Louis for three games before heading to Pittsburgh for a four-game set. Tonight's series opener in St. Louis features a pitching matchup between Freddy Peralta and Kyle Gibson. This divisional matchup gets underway at 8:15 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.
Gibson has struggled mightily during his time in St. Louis, where he's out to a 1-2 start with a 6.16 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. The right-hander has been extremely susceptible to the long ball, conceding five HRs over his first three starts (19.0 IP). That equates to a 2.37 HR/9 rate!
I'll take a flier on Willy Adames to hit a bomb tonight. The shortstop has developed his power since coming over to Milwaukee, hitting three home runs this season (45th) after launching 24 last year. As for the head-to-head numbers, Adames is 3-7 (.429) against Gibson with a solo home run and no strikeouts. I'll take a shot with a +550 payout against the struggling Gibson any day of the week.
