Elly De La Cruz (+275), Matt McLain (+380) & Austin Hays (+300)
We are going to target the Reds versus Rockies matchup for our home run props today. Coors Field is one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the league, and we saw five dingers yesterday. Expect more of the same this afternoon.
Austin Hays went deep twice in yesterday’s game, and I’m calling a heat check on him today. With the pitching matchup and conditions out in Colorado, there is a good chance he leaves the park once again.
Hays is batting .368 with five home runs and an ISO of .421 against right-handed pitchers this year. His 48.3% fly ball rate is second on the team behind Matt McLain. To hit the long ball, you need to get the ball in the air. Hays’ HR/FB rate of 35.7% is also the highest on the Reds by far.
While Elly De La Cruz isn’t one to always get the ball in the air, posting a 27.7% fly ball rate, he has the fourth-highest hard-hit percentage, and we know he has the power to muscle one out any given day.
Outside of the traditional fastball, Rockies starter Ryan Feltner uses a slider and change-up nearly 40% of the time. De La Cruz feasts on incoming sliders - one home run, three doubles and a .300 batting average against the slider.
Teoscar Hernandez (+340)
Teoscar Hernandez has an excellent matchup against Pirates lefty Bailey Falter. Hernandez is one of the best hitters when facing a southpaw. Among qualified hitters, he is second in home runs (four), third in ISO (.556), second in slugging rate (1.037) and sixth in HR/FB rate (33.3%).
In his nine career at-bats against Falter, the Dodgers outfielder is batting .444 with two doubles and two home runs.
A big day is coming for Hernandez.
