Bryce Harper (+390)
The Phillies are one victory away from clinching a National League playoff spot. Their next chance to secure it comes versus Luis Severino and the Mets on Thursday evening. Severino has been a pleasant surprise for New York, but he has been tagged for multiple home runs in three of his last seven starts. That includes when Philly slugger Bryce Harper beat him twice for a long ball at Citizens Bank Park on September 14.
Harper has what it takes to replicate that success. The two-time MVP has posted a .387/.472/.871 slash line to go with four blasts in eight battles with the Mets this campaign. He has also been Phillyâs most reliable hitter facing right-handers, recording a .905 OPS and 45 extra-base knocks against them. Citi Field should be packed for this clash and boosting Harperâs adrenaline with a hostile crowd makes him even more dangerous.
Ian Happ (+475)
A few recent positive outings donât change the fact Washingtonâs Patrick Corbin has been one of the leagueâs worst pitchers. After all, his 1.49 WHIP is tied for the worst mark in the Majors. His 5.45 ERA trails just one other qualified hurler. The Nationals southpaw ranks outside the top 350 arms in hard-hit percentage (47.4%) and barrels allowed (45). Corbin is failing to limit hard contact.
Naturally, that bodes well for the Cubs lineup on Thursday. Outfielder Ian Happ is the player to target given his numbers at Wrigley Field. The 30-year-old has slashed .268/.357/.504 with a team-high 13 home runs across 70 home games. A two-homer performance on Sunday has Happ back on track and now he gets to face a struggling starter in front of the Chicago fan base. Trust him to launch a baseball into the outfield bleachers.
Jose Altuve (+400)
Jose Altuve made headlines when he showed his bare foot to the umpire during an unusual ejection on Tuesday night. Donât let that distract you from the fact the Houston All-Star is batting .352 over his last 13 contests. Altuve returns to Minute Maid Park on Thursday, where he has been his best at the plate. His .507 slugging percentage at home is head and shoulders above his .346 mark on the road.
Take note that Altuve draws a fantastic pitching matchup here. Left-hander Jose Suarez will be on the mound for the Angels. Suarez has logged a dismal 6.41 ERA in away games this year working primarily out of the bullpen. Itâs far from an outlier considering his career road ERA checks in at 5.18. Altuve is 7-for-17 with a dinger against Suarez and has gone deep off multiple Los Angeles relievers, too. Expect him to continue that dominance.
