Here are our favorite no runs first inning bets for Wednesday’s slate.

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Pitching matchup: Justin Steele vs. Adrian Houser

Justin Steele has become one of the best pitchers in the National League and looks to be the Cubs’ Ace for years to come. Steele is 9-2 with a 2.43 ERA, the lowest in the MLB.

Steele’s first-inning stats are just as good. His ERA is 2.40, while his opponent’s OBP is a measly .254; both rank inside the top 30. In his 15 starts, he has only allowed a first-inning run in three of them, only one being on the road.

The Cubs starter faced the Brewers back on April 1st, where he pitched six shutout innings while striking out eight batters.

Adrian Houser may not be as good as Justin Steele, but Houser is still putting up respectable numbers in 2023. The Brewers’ starter is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERa and 1.51 WHIP. The numbers aren’t great, but we just need three quick outs to cash in the NRFI.

Both offenses have been struggling as of late as they have posted below-average wRC+ numbers over the past 30 days while ranking in the bottom half in batting average, ISO, and wOBA.

Bet: NRFI -105

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox

Pitching matchup: Jose Berrios vs. Lance Lynn

Lance Lynn is looking for a fresh start in July, as June was not very kind to him. Last month in five starts, Lynn went 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. The way his 2023 season has been going, I don’t think a new month will help him. He has posted an ERA of 5.97 or higher in the last three months, including an ERA of 8.00 in May.

Lance Lynn has been one of the worst pitchers in the first inning. Lynn has an ERa of 10.59 in the first inning while allowing 20 runs, second most in the MLB. Opponents are batting .388 with an OBP of .400.

To make matters worse for Lynn, it has pitched worse at home. His ERA for the season is 6.47, but his ERa at home jumps to 7.22. He has allowed a first-inning run in 8 of his 17 starts, including 3 of his 7 starts.

While the Jays have been underperforming this season, they tend to beat up on bad RHP pitchers. In 2023, Toronto ranks 7th in wOBA (.328), 6th in wRC+ (110), 13th in ISO (.165), and 9th in HRs (82) against RHP.

Bet: YRFI -130
