MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds & Picks: Monday (6/19)

There’s nothing like a quick 1-2-3 inning in the first! Tonight’s slate has some awesome pitching matchups that I’m ready to attack in the NRFI market.

Let’s get right to it!

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Tonight’s pitching matchup in Milwaukee will feature Merrill Kelly and Corbin Burnes. Both of these two pitchers have been elite over the last month.

Kelly has struck out 30.3% of batters in the last 30 days and has walked just 7.4%. He’s also earning 50% of ground balls and limiting teams to a .143 ISO and wOBA of .249 over the last month.

Kelly will likely face Christian Yelich, Jesse Winker, and Willy Adames to start things off. Yelich has a high wOBA against righties and a low strikeout percentage. However, he’s also hit 53.7% of ground balls and only 20.4% of line drives against righties over the last month. Kelly will then take on Winker, who has struck out 40% of the time against righties in his last 25 plate appearances. Finally, he’d face Willy Adames, who has struck out 26.5% of the time and has a wOBA of .257 in the last month against righties.

Rowdy Tellez would be next if anyone got on. He’s hit a .130 ISO and wOBA of .282 against righties in the last month, which is also below average.

On the flip side, Corbin Burnes will have a tougher assignment, but he’s been great in the last month. Burnes has held teams to a .129 ISO and wOBA of.254 over the previous month. He will begin things by facing Geraldo Perdomo, Ketel Marte, and Corbin Carroll. All three of those bats are lefties.

Burnes has earned over 51% of grounders in the last month against lefties. He’s also allowed just 24.4% of fly balls and 17.8% of line drives against lefties.

I like my chances with no runs in the first inning of this matchup.

NRFI Odds: -140

New York Mets vs. Houston Astros

The Mets and Astros will send out a pair of aces tonight. Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Mets, while Hunter Brown will man the mound for the Astros.

Scherzer has struck out over 31% of batters in the last month. He’s also limited teams to 3.3% of walks and has allowed an ISO of .095 and wOBA of .261 over the last 30 days. For the Astros, the first four of five batters have hit a .143 ISO or worse against righties. Only Jose Altuve has solid numbers against righties in the last month for this Houston lineup.

Meanwhile, Brown has struck out over 33% of batters in the last month. He’s also limited teams to 5.9% of walks in that time and has held teams to a wOBA of .291. Brown has also earned over 58% of grounders and rarely allows fly balls and line drives to both sides of the plate.

The first three Mets hitters — Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, and Francisco Lindor — have struck out at least 23.6% of the time against righties. Don’t be surprised if Brown racks up the strikeouts early.

Let’s ride no runs in the first inning in this matchup too.

NRFI Odds: -145
