MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (10/9)

Tonight we have two games on the board with both NLCS going to Game 2. The road teams won both of the opening games with the Phillies winning a tough pitchers’ duel and the Diamondbacks coming in hot and destroying Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Both home teams look to get back on track tonight and with only two games on the board, we can make an argument for why they will both escape the first inning 0-0.

Monday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves

Zack Wheeler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and has posted elite numbers in his career in the postseason. Last postseason the right-hander helped to carry the Phillies to the World Series and has a 2.55 ERA in in his career in the biggest games of the season. He was elite the first time through the order all year long with a 0.244 wOBA. The Braves can hit but Wheeler may just be too good for them right out of the gate. Max Fried will try to keep the Phillies off the board and while injuries plagued his season, he was still excellent when he did pitch. His career playoff numbers are not as exciting as Wheeler’s but as he will be tasked with getting his team back into this series I expect him to come through. He was similarly great the first time through the order with a 0.256 wOBA allowed and for the Phillies, Schwarber and potentially Harper being on the wrong side of the platoon advantage may help Fried out.

Pick: No Runs First Inning (-125)

Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers

Similarly to the Braves, the Dodgers were not happy with the result of their first game and are in a serious hole right off the bat. Rookie Bobby Miller is making his postseason debut and that is definitely cause for concern. Miller was solid in his debut season with a mid-three ERA and the estimators seem to like him. He was strong throughout the game but his 0.271 wOBA the first time through the order. The Dbacks’ offense jumped the Dodgers on Saturday but they are definitely not the side of this matchup that strikes fear into their opponents. Zac Gallen gets the ball for Arizona and he has been excellent this season, especially the first time through the order. He has an impressive 0.262 wOBA the first time through the order and despite the Dodgers’ incredible offense, I think he will successfully manage to keep the Dodgers off the board in the first before their offense wakes up and gets them back into this series.

Pick: No Runs First Inning (-120)
