Today’s Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

Check out our top picks for Saturday.

Miami Marlins vs. Chicago Cubs

Bryan Hoeing vs. Drew Smyly

The Miami Marlins are having trouble scoring runs in 2023. They are dead last in runs per game (3.30) and have failed to score at least four or more in almost 73% of their games.

Drew Smyly is capable of shutting offenses down, as we saw when he was three outs away from a perfect game earlier this season. Even when opposing lineups can put together a few hits, they aren’t the greatest quality, as Smyly has a hard hit% of 28.3%, when of the best in the MLB.

On the Flipside, Bryan Hoeing (0-1, 6.23) has been inconsistent over his first two starts of the season. He did get knocked around by the Atlanta Braves in his first start, then came back against this Cubs team and put together a quality start. Hoeing should be more comfortable in his third start and have another quality start.

NRFI +100

Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians

Sonny Gray vs. Logan Allen

The Guardians have been one of the more disappointing teams in 2023. After an impressive 2022 campaign, winning the A.L. Central, they are 14-18 and sitting in third place. Their pitching has been inconsistent, and their offense is near the bottom of the league. Despite injuries to their starting rotation, a few youngsters have come in and stepped up, including today’s starter Logan Allen.

In his first two starts, he has gone at least five innings giving up no more than two runs and 16 strikeouts. This should be another excellent start for Allen as the Minnesota twins rank 28th in wOBA, 27th in wRC+, and have the second-highest strikeout rate against lefties this season.

Sonny Gray has emerged as an early CY Young candidate as he is 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA this season. Combined with Gray’s dominant pitching and Cleveland’s terrible offense, this should be a low-scoring divisional battle.
