MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (7/27)

With a large percentage of teams off due to the conclusion of their “Rivalry” series, we only have five total games on the board, two of which are part of a doubleheader. As a result, we have extremely thin pickings for today’s games.

That said, let’s dive into my two favorite NRFI bets for today, July 27.

Thursday’s Best No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets

Pitching Matchup: Josiah Gray vs. Kodai Senga

I often find myself betting on Kodai Senga doing impressive things. The righty from Japan has been excellent for the Mets in his first season, racking up the Ks while carrying a low ERA. His one flaw has been his walk rate, but the Nationals have the second lowest BB% in all of baseball. Senga should have no issues taking advantage of their flaws to post a clean first.

Josiah Gray has posted solid surface numbers, but his HR and BB issues paint a slightly different picture. He is definitely not as good as his ERA shows, but he actually has a decent wOBA allowed the first time through the order at 0.305. The Mets offense has been extremely inconsistent, and today we are betting that the poor version shows up the first time through the order.

    Bet: NRFI (-105)

Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox

Pitching Matchup: Tanner Bibee vs. Dylan Cease

Both of these teams made a trade yesterday, moving pieces off their big league roster. The White Sox appear to be in more of a sell mode, but both teams have pieces other teams could use for a playoff push. Dylan Cease takes the mound today for Chicago, and his issue always seems to be walks. He has been excellent the first time through the order with a 0.263 wOBA allowed, and Cleveland doesn’t post big walk totals, which fits well with Cease.

The other side of this has Tanner Bibee getting the ball, and Bibee has been a fantastic addition to the Guardians’ rotation. While nothing is truly elite, Bibee does everything right around average to slightly above average. He has been great the first time through the order with a 0.258 wOBA allowed, and as long as he manages to keep Luis Robert Jr. in the yard, he should be able to keep a clean inning.

    Bet: NRFI (-105)
