MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/21)

We have nine games on the board which is actually a decently high number for a Thursday this late into the season. There are not too many direct matchups with playoff implications, but with the NL WC race looking as it does, every game matters for those teams still fighting. Let’s take a look at the NRFI market for today.

Thursday’s Best No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

Milwaukee Brewers at St. Louis Cardinals

The Brewers have the NL Central essentially wrapped up. They face off with division foe St. Louis today and are sending Wade Miley to the mound. Miley is certainly not someone with ace-like skills, but this season, he has allowed a 0.269 wOBA the first time through the order. The Cardinals are in full-blown play-the-kids mode and have been sending some interesting lineups out there lately. Miley should be able to keep them off the board in the first in this one. Miles Mikolas gets the ball on the other side, and while his season has been a bit of a disappointment, he has been strong the first time through the order in his career with a 0.284 wOBA allowed. His pitch-to-contact ways make this a bit risky at times, but he is a solid pitcher, and the Brewers’ lineup hasn’t been firing on all cylinders lately.

Pick: NRFI (+100)

San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers

Sometimes, we take the game with the best odds on the board, and today, that is this one. Kyle Harrison has shown flashes for the Giants in his short MLB action, showing great strikeout ability with more control than people expected. The issue is that his pitches get absolutely crushed. He is allowing just under three HR/9 and an 11.6% barrel rate. He gets hit extremely hard despite the excellent stuff. In his short debut, that has manifested early in games. However, with the board like it is today and pitching in a big division matchup, I like the young lefty’s chances of keeping a clean first. Emmet Sheehan gets the ball on the other side, and his main issue has been the walks. The HRs are slightly elevated as well, but nowhere near Harrison’s range. This Giants offense has struggled at times, and Sheehan has a respectable 0.328 wOBA allowed the first time through the order. He should keep up his end of this one; we just need Harrison to do his part.

Pick: NRFI (+120)
